Transcription hath had much familiaritie and conversatiohath had much familiaritie and conversation with her dutch company, and<br /> bin privie to much of their discourse, and saith that in an evening about the<br /> beginning of September last, this deponent being in the longe boate of the<br /> said shipp going aboard from another shipp lying there by in company of<br /> the Stiersman, and two or three others of the company of the<br /> ''Crosse of Jerusalem'', heard them murmurr and complaine that the Skipper<br /> of the said shipp the ''Crosse of Jerusalem'' did not pay them their wages,<br /> and in such complainte the Skeeman said, (speaking to the Stiersman) to<br /> this effect, If the Skipper will doe mee right (speaking of paying<br /> him his wages) I will not betray him, but otherwise - and there the<br /> Stiersman interrupted him and said, Peace, the man (speaking<br /> of this deponent) understandeth, and soe hee proceeded noe further. And<br /> this deponent in the time of such his waiting aboard the said shipp<br /> hath often heard severall of her company enveigh and raile against<br /> their Gunner, calling him (in their language) rogue, dogge and<br /> many other reprochfull termes, and threaten that<br /> if ever hee came into holland hee should be hanged; and this deponent<br /> perceived and understood by their discourse that such their displeasure<br /> and threats proceeded from them because the said Gunner had made<br /> some discovery and deposition touching the said shipp and lading<br /> tending to the advantage of this Commonwealth.
