Marchant, aged 31 yeares or thereabouts sworne and examined.
To the first article of the said allegation hee saith hee well knoweth the<br />
producent Richard Pistus and hath soe donne for theise [?seaven] yeares<br />
last or thereabouts and hath for that space had [?conversation] and acquaintance<br />
in Saint Lucars and Cadiz in Spaine this deponent being at Cadiz and<br />
Sevill for all the said time, and saith the said Richard was, and is an<br />
Englishman and for such commonly accompted and reputed and a subiect<br />
of this Commonwealth, and speaketh and writeth perfect English as an Englishman<br />
which hee knoweth being intimate with<br />
the said Richard, who as this deponent hath understood from him was<br />
borne in the West of England. And saith that as this deponent<br />
who came from Cadiz the last of July last newe stile hath bin informed the<br />
said Richard hath since this deponents said comming thence<br />
suffered as an Englishman in the late sequestration made in<br />
Spaine upon the English. And otherwise hee cannot depose.

To the first hee saith the said Richard is a batchelour and is [?nowe]<br />
in Cadiz under restraint as this deponent beleeveth. And otherwise<br />
hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing deposition and saving<br />
the same cannot depose.

To the third hee saith hee this deponent is a native of the County<br />
of Angus in Scotland, and hath lived in Cadiz and Sevill theise nine<br />
or tenn yeares last. And otherwise negatively saving as aforesaid.

about nine weekes that hee came thence) lived in Spaine and was<br />

accepted and reputed, which hee knoweth being alsoe an Englishman<br />
and conversing there with him, And saith that as this deponent<br />
