aged 25 yeares or thereabouts sworne<br />
and examined.
To the first article of the said allegation hee sith and deposeth that<br />
for the monethes arlate of the yeare 1655 present and for some yeares and<br />
monethes before the producent Jeronimo Nunez da Costa, diego fferdinando<br />
Lemos, duarte dias de Paz and Simon and Lewis Rodriguez de Souza,<br />
have and doe still drive a constant trade from Lisbone to Roane<br />
and Amsterdam and back againe thence to Lisbone, with sugars, tobaccoes<br />
and other Merchandizes as flax, perpetuanas, linnens and other goods,<br />
for which flax, perpetuanas, linnens and other goods sent from Amsterdam<br />
and Roane they use to receive from Lisbone, sugars, tobaccoes, oiles and<br />
other commodities, to which purpose they have their severall factors<br />
residing at Lisbone; and saith that the said Jeronimo Nunez da Costa<br />
and the other before named persons were and are merchants<br />
of god accompt and of greate dealing upon their owne accompts at the<br />
places aforesaid and at other places, and send greate quantities of<br />
merchandizes to and from those plaes for their owne accompts, and this<br />
hee saith was and is true, publique and notorious, which hee knoweth<br />
because hee this deponent for seaven yeares or thereabouts lived with Mr<br />
Boevé of this citie merchant who corresponded with them, and did<br />
many and greate businesses or dispatches in merchandize for them, and<br />
their proper accompt, and paid and received much moneys upon their<br />
accompt by way of exchange, this deponent acting in his Counting<br />
house and being thereby more especially acquainted with the premisses,<br />
and receiving and opening and answering his said masters letters<br />
being by him intrusted in the cheifest management of his merchandizing<br />
affaires. And by advises and merchandizing dispatches, hee hath found<br />
and seene that the other producents namely diago Baraza, Andrew<br />
and Christofer Nunez and diego Perez Caminho were and are alsoe<br />
merchants of very considerable traffique at and from and to the foresaid<br />
places and for such commonly accompted, and this deponent hath<br />
corresponded with them in the way aforesaid, And otherwise hee cannot depose
