To the first hee saith that hee was not one of the company nor was in the said<br />
shipp the ''Sampson'' the voyage in question, but formerly for 18 monethes or thereabouts<br />
together ended about 4 yeares since hee served in her as one of her common<br />
mariners, at the rate of five peeces of eight per money, and was hired at<br />
Amsterdam and there shipped by the said Otto George.
To the second negatively, saying hee was not present at the ladeing in question.
To the third hee cannot depose.
To the fourth hee saith hee well knoweth the foresaid Peter Eleson one of the reputed owners<br />
of the said shipp the ''Sampson'' and hath soe donne for theise two or three yeeres last past<br />
or thereabouts, and this deponent toooke him to be an owner when this deposnent soe served<br />
in her because hee the said Otto George and company used to repare to him for<br />
supplying her with necessaries And otherwise hee cannot depose saving as aforesaid.
To the fifth hee saith hee sawe the said Peter Eleson at Amsterdam in winter last<br />
but did not speake to or with him, and saith hee is a middle statured man<br />
well complexioned and of about 33 yeares of age in this deponents estimation.<br />
And otherwise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid.
To the 6th hee saith hee can speake the Northsea language and lowe dutch<br />
and noe other language, and that Northsea is his mother tongue, and the<br />
other hee learnt in his youth.
To the 7th hee saith hee can neither write nor reade.
To the 8th hee saith hee knoweth not him that was Purser of the ''Sampson''<br />
at the time of her seizure, or that is nowe Purser of her.
