County of Middlesex Mariner Commander of the Shipp the ''Lyon''<br />
in the imediate service of this Commonwealth aged sixty<br />
yeares or thereabouts a witnesse sworne and examined<br />
saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./
To the first and second Interrogatorie hee saith that this deponent being then Comming homewards<br />
from the West Indies hee and his Company of the ''Lyon'' found the shipp<br />
Interrogate the nyne and twentieth day of August last about twenty or thirty leagues to the West of the Lizard pointe<br />
and saith the shipp Interrogate was bought into Dartmouth<br />
by some of the Company belonging to sayd shipp the ''Lyon'' And<br />
saith the Shipp Interrogate was with much difficulty and by the care and<br />
industrie of this deponent and his company of the ''Lyon'' aforesayd preserved from<br />
perishing and brought safe to Brixham first and afterwards to Dartmouth in manner<br />
following videlicet when this deponent and his company of the ''Lyon'' first<br />
discerned the shipp Interrogate at a great distance there were fower other<br />
shipps in her company whereof one of them runne on board of her,<br />
but before this deponent and his company of the ''Lyon'' could get up to them all<br />
the sayd fower shipps left the shipps Interrogate, and made away, And when<br />
this deponent and company with the shipp the ''Lyon'' drew neere the shipp Interrogate<br />
hee this deponent commanded his lieutenant John Gough with the Masters<br />
Mate of the ''Lyon'' and other seamen of the Lyon to goe on board the Shipp Interrogate,<br />
who at their coming aboard her found noe living man woman or boy<br />
on board her nor other living thinge but three dogs or thereabouts and found that shee had received some shott under water<br />
and that much water had gotten into her hold whereupon the sayd Gough and<br />
masters mates and Company of the Lyon which this deponent soe commanded aboard her<br />
returned all on board the ''Lyon'' and brought two sayles videlicet and the sprit sayle topp sayle of the shipp Interrogate and a smale kettle and a copper and a and told this deponent shee was in such a<br />
condition that she could not be saved from sinking whereupon hee this<br />
deponent tooke a boate belonging to the ''Marigold'' a shipp in company of the '''Lyon''' and commanded the Carpenter of the ''Lyon'' and some of his men<br />
some mariners of the Lyons Company to goe with this deponant aboard the<br />
shipp Interrogate and carried the ssaid two sayles againe on board the shipp Interrogate and whatever else brought out of her and this deponent coming aboard her found that<br />
shee was in a very sinking and perishable condition, which notwithstanding<br />
this deponent being desirous shee should be preserved if possible<br />
