and hath no manner of interest in this Cause, nor will the prevayling or
overthrow of the said producent herein be any benefit or preiudice of this rendent

To the 2d hee saith hee doeth not knowe the interrate William Peere
nor doeth hee remember that hee ever saw him:-/
To the 3d hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition . And otherwise negatively
and further cannot depose./
To the 4th hee referreth himselfe to his foregoeing deposition, And otherwise then
negatively cannot further depose./

On the behalfe of Valentine Austin
A Buisinesse of Ensurance concerning a losse in}
the shipp called the ffortune of Carrick Vergus.}
Examined upon Certaine Interrogatories adm=
nistred on the behalfe of Valentine
Austin of London Merchant:-/

Thomas Philips of Wapping in the parish of Stepney
Mariner aged 22. yeares or thereabouts, sworne the day
and yeare abovesaid before the right Worshippfull William
Clerke docter of Lawes one of the Judges of the high
Court of Admiraltie of England saith and deposeth
by vertue of his oath as followeth videlicet./
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth, That hee this examinate well
knoweth the shipp the fortune of Carick Vergus interrate, whereof the interrate
Arthur Crowther was Master under God, and did so knowe her when shee
was last at Nevis or Mevis one of the Leeward Islands in the West Indies
in or about the moneth of June 1654. last past, which was the last time
shee was there and was thence bound for this Port of London, This deponent
bring then Steward and keeper of the accompts of and aboard the said shipp
And further cannot depose./
To the second Interrogatorie hee saith, That during the time the said shipp the
fortune of Carickvergus remained at Mevis aforesaid, there were, (as this
examinate now remembreth) about 28. vessells butts or hogsheads of sugar or upwards laden
at Mevis aforesaid, and for the proper accompt of the said Valentine
Austin and marked with his markes videlicet VA. SS. and some Tobaccoes which were to be
brought in the said shipp to London and there delivered to the said Valentine
Austin or his order, The premisses hee knoweth for that hee this examinate
was present and assistant at and on the lading of the said sugars and being
accompt keeper for and on the behalfe of the said shipps boateswaine who could
