Lading and Goeing Boatswaine of the said Ship. the<br />
said voyage untill her seizure hereafter mentioned<br />
And further doth not depose, Not knowing the<br />
Vallue of the said Outwards Cargoe./:
To the 3rd. hee saith that the said Outwards Cargoe<br />
being soe put on board the said ship ''Hopewell''<br />
shee did by order of the said Owners set sails<br />
with the same on board her, for the Coast of<br />
Affrica under the Conduct of Arthur Perkins<br />
her master, and saith that in or about the moneth<br />
of June 1658 the said ship safely arrived with<br />
all her said Lading onboard her at Bengall on the<br />
Coast of Affrica. Which hee knowing for that hee<br />
sailed thither in her. And further doth not depose.
To the 4th. hee saith that soone after the arrivall of<br />
the said ship and Lading at Bengall the said Perkins<br />
and about foure of the said Ships Company went<br />
ashore there, to Intreate the Governor of Bengall to let them<br />
take in some fresh water and ffresh victualls, and wood.<br />
Which the said Governor Granted and alsoe did himself<br />
come onboard the said ship, and understanding that<br />
the said ship was to goe to Angola to trade there<br />
did persuade the Master Perkins and Mr Jenkins his man who<br />
went supercargoe of the said ship not to goe to Angola<br />
telling them in the presence of this Deponent and all or<br />
most of the said ships Company that there (meaning<br />
at Bengall) they might have Teeth and Negroes<br />
enough and cheaper then at Angola; and told them<br />
that if they would trade at Bengall hee would give<br />
them a License, or to that effect, which hee soe spake<br />
in the Portugueze tongue which this deponent understood.<br />
and at the same time the said Perkins gave the<br />
said Governor a Cabinet and a Case of Stronge<br />
Waters as a present, which this deponent handed out of<br />
the said ship to the said Governor who carried<br />
the same ashore. And upon such the said Governor<br />
License the said Perkins and Company sent all the<br />
said Outwards Lading ashore at Bengall, to be trucked<br />
away for Teeth Negroes, and other Merchanidizes<br />
of that place. And while the said<br />
ship was there trading the said Governor of Bengall<br />
sent a ship to Angola to give Notice of the ''Hopewell''<br />
