'''Thomas Cole''' of Acton neere<br /> Ipswich Mariner, Gunner of the<br /> Ship the ''Mary Rose'' Sworne and<br /> Examined:/: To the first and second articles of the said Allegation hee<br /> saith and deposeth that hee this deponent well knoweth<br /> the ships the ''John'' and the ''Mary Rose'' arlate, and<br /> they and many other ships Laden with Coales did lye<br /> at Anchor in Tinmouth haven on the morning of<br /> the two and Twentieth day of October 1658: some<br /> of the said other ships being a head, got out of Tinmouth<br /> haven, on the said morning to come for London and<br /> other places, and likewise the said Ships the ''John''<br /> and ''Mary Rose'' did on the said morning weigh<br /> their Anchors Intending to saile for London, and<br /> saith that After one of the Anchors of the ''Mary''<br /> ''Rose'' was weighed and assoone as the other was away<br /> John Cole the Master of the ''Mary Rose'', called<br /> out to the Company of the ''John'' (the ''John'' Lying a<br /> little ahead of the ''Mary Rose'') and desired them<br /> not to weigh their Anchors (which they were then about<br /> to doe) untill the ''Mary Rose'', was shott of<br /> her, but notwithstanding the Company of the ''John''<br /> did not forbeare the weighing of their Anchor,<br /> but had it away. a little before the ''Mary''<br /> ''Rose'' came by the place where the ''John'' lay, and the<br /> Ship of Alborough arlate (called the ''Willing minde''<br /> To this Deponents remembrance) weighed anchor at<br /> the said time, and got betwixt the ''John'' and the ''Mary''<br /> ''Rose''.
