or thereabouts a Wittnesse produced and sworne<br />
saieth as followeth to witt
To the first article of the said Allegation hee saieth, That hee this<br />
deponent well knoweth that in the yeares 1655. 1656 and<br />
1657. arlate, and in the severall moneths in the said respective<br />
yeares concurring there was and at present is a Certaine<br />
Companie of Merchants called or knowne by the name of<br />
the Brazeele Companie, who were and are all of them
Subjects of the king of Portugall and for and as such well<br />
knowne and generally reputed and taken, who did and doe hold<br />
their usuall abode and residence in the City of Lisbone or<br />
places neere adjacent thereunto, and were constituted and made<br />
a Companie by authoritie of the king of Portugall now regnant<br />
or of the Late deceased king his immediate predecessor<br />
with authoritie to trade to and from the Brazeele for sugars<br />
and other Merchandises, and that the said Companie for<br />
many yeares past and especially in the said yeares 1655. 1656.<br />
and 1657.<br />
and the moneths therein respectively concurring and<br />
since have exercised used and driven, and doe exercise use<br />
and drive a great trade from Lisbone to Brazeel with<br />
Merchandises and from Brazeele to Lisbone and others the<br />
Dominions of the king of Portugall for sugars and other<br />
goods and Merchandises, and for that purpose had and have<br />
their factors and agents resident at the Bahia ffernambuco<br />
and other parts in Brazeele; And this deponent rendring a reason<br />
of such his knowledge saieth, That he is a Portugueze by<br />
birth and habitation, and a Mariner by profession and hath<br />
for all the said yeares <u>1655.</u> 1656. and 1657 and before had a constant relation<br />
to the said Companie trade and Navigation, and hath beene<br />
thereby and therein employed as Master of a shipp trading<br />
to and from the parts and places aforesaid upon the accompt<br />
of the said Companie and others all Subjects of the Crowne<br />
of Portugall, and hath thereby had the oportunity well and<br />
sufficiently to observe and to notice, and to be well and duely<br />
assured of the trueth of the premisses. And further to this article<br />
