and ending '''1390 0000''' hee saith and deposeth that hee being a<br />
ffactor then to certayne English Merchants at Porto Port well<br />
knoweth that teh English Merchants trading to Porto Port have suffered<br />
losse and damage to the value of seaven hundred and forty<br />
Mill Res or somewhat more, upon peeces of eight of Peru they<br />
being made uncurrant by the King of Portugalls proclamation<br />
before the Restitution of their moneys which they had received<br />
And hee further saith that the sayd Merchants have disbursed<br />
in charges about withdrawing the sequestration and recovering<br />
their sayd moneys the full summe of sixe hundred Mill Res<br />
and upwards this hee knoweth for the reasons aforesayd as<br />
alsoe for that hee this deponent was present and assisted<br />
in making up the Accompts touching the forsayd charges and<br />
dammage And this hee saith was in the yeare 1652 or<br />
thereabouts./

Mariner aged 51 yeares or thereabouts sworne before<br />
the right Worshipfull John Godolphin doctor of lawes, one<br />
of the Judges of the high Court of the Admiraltie<br />
saith and deposeth by vertue of his oath.
That in or about the moneth of August 1650 the shipp called the<br />
''Chapman'' of London (whereof Nicholas Trerice was commander)<br />
was seized by the Portugueses, subiects of the King of Portugall at<br />
the Island of Madera, together with all the lading and gods aboard<br />
her, and that hee this deponent was then in her and master Carpenter<br />
of her, and had then aboard for his owne accompt thirtie kintalls<br />
of fish worth four score pounds sterling, twenty barrells<br />
of pease worth thirtie pounds sterling, halfe a hundred weight<br />
of tobacco worth seaven pounds, and after those rates<br />
hee saith the like goods were then and there commonly sold as the ordinary<br />
andmonly sold as the ordinary<br />
