answere to this Interrogatorie/
To the 4th hee saith hee did not see the goods or hydes landed at<br />
Southampton but sawe them there dryeing and heard and beleeveth that they came out<br />
of the ''Southampton Merchant'' whereof Mr Edward Millbury was Master<br />
And further to this Interrogatorie saving his foregoing deposition hee<br />
cannot answere./
To the 5th hee saith hee remembreth the building of the shipp the<br />
''Southampton Merchant'' and saith shee was built as hee remembreth about<br />
seaven or eight yeares since and therefore hee beleeveth what<br />
dammage happened to her could not bee through age or rottennesse<br />
shee being at her arrivall at Southampton with the sayd skinnes<br />
but sixe yeare old or thereabout And further to this Interrogatorie hee<br />
cannot answere./

three yeares or thereabouts a wittnesse sworne<br />

Worshipfull John Godolphin doctor of Lawes one of<br />
the Judges of the high Court of Admiralty of<br />
England saith and deposeth as followeth videlicet./
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith hee well knew the ''Southampton''<br />
''Merchant'' Interrogate the tyme Interrogate being Master of her during the voyage in question<br />
and saith the sayd shipp was at New England in the moneth of Iuly<br />
1654 and came from thence in August next following bound for dover<br />
or London./
To the 2 Interrogatorie hee saith hee being Master of the sayd shipp as aforesayd<br />
knoweth that whilst shee was at New England one Mr John Jolliff did<br />
as Factor to the Interrogate William Bulkley cause to bee laden aboard<br />
the sayd shipp two thousand West India hides for the sole and proper<br />
Accompt of the sayd Bulkley and consiyned to bee delivered to<br />
him at dover or London according to the sayd Bulkleys order which<br />
hee should give at the tyme of the sayd shipps arriuall at either of<br />
those places And saith the sayd hydes at the tyme of their ladeing<br />
were in this deponents Judgement<br />
good and Merchantable and free from any dammage by wett<br />
And further hee canot answere saving hee saith hee deposeth the premisses<br />
of certaine knowledge for that hee signed bills of ladeing for the sayd hydes, as Master/.

New England on the twentie fowerth day of August 1654 on the<br />
voyage in question and was at such her departure of this deponents<br />
certayne knowledge a strong and stanch shipp and in good condition to<br />
