Mariner aged thirty yeares or therabouts a<br />
wittnes sworne and examined saith and<br />
deposeth as followeth videlicet
To the first article of the sayd allegation hee saith that<br />
for severall yeares last past all forraigners not subjects of this<br />
Commonwealth have bin prohibited all trade and commerce<br />
with the Inhabitants of the Iland of the Barbados without<br />
speciall licence first obteyned from this Commonwealth soe<br />
to trade there but for more certaynetie referreth him selfe<br />
to the lawes Statutes and ordinances arlate And further<br />
to this article hee cannot depose/.
To the second article of the sayd allegation hee saith that hee this<br />
deponent was one of the Company of the ''Swift Sure'' a shipp<br />
in the Imediate service of this Commonwealth and in her arrivall<br />
about the latter end January 1654 English style at the Island<br />
of the Barbados And saith that at the sayd shipps comming thither with the rest of the States ffleete<br />
the ''Strong Rowland'' alias the ''Jamaica Merchant'' arlate a dutch shipp and some other dutch<br />
shipps were then at the Barbados tradeing and trafiquing with<br />
the Inhabitants there for sugars and other Commodities which the sayd<br />
Iland afforded and saith that soone after the arrivall of the ''Swift''<br />
''Sure'' aforesayd the sayd shipp the ''Strong Rowland'' and the other<br />
dutch shipps were by order of the honorable the Comissioners<br />
for the mannageing of affaires in America seized upon with such<br />
ladeing as they had on board them, and all other goods whatsoever<br />
by them brought thither to trade with, in Whose hands soever they<br />
were found on off shoare And hee this being deponent being by<br />
order of the sayd Commissioners imployed to goe on board the<br />
sayd shipp ''Strong Rowland'' and the other shipps soe seized to take<br />
an Inventory of their tackles furnitures and ladeings on<br />
board them hee this deponent did accordingly performe the same<br />
and coming aboard the ''strong Rowland'' aforesayd found that shee<br />
had in hold in casks great and smale as hogsheads butts and barrells<br />
about two hundred caske of Muscovadoe sugar and other goods<br />
to the quantitie of a third part of her ladeing of which goods<br />
