Transcription Katharine Wedge mentioned in the sayd alleKatharine Wedge mentioned in the sayd allegation, unto whom whome he<br /> gave notice where the sayd Reeve Johnson and Matison might<br /> be found, who had undertaken to proove and told this deponent<br /> they were able positively to sweare the effect of the sayd paper,<br /> and the reason of this deponents leaving the sayd paper with Katharine<br /> Wedge was because his Occasions called him away to sea by meanes<br /> whereof he could not then attend this service. And he further saith<br /> that all the sayd persons to witt the sayd Reeve Johnson and Matison<br /> did acquaint this deponent, and affirme they could and would be<br /> deposed, that the masters of the sayd three shipps the ''Salvador'',<br /> the ''Sampson'', and the ''Saint George'' are hamburghers in this manner<br /> following and not otherwise, that is to say, They have howses<br /> in hamburgh where their wifes doe live for the tyme their<br /> husbands are upon their voyage, and that att their returnes<br /> they come to holland, and dwell there with their husbands<br /> untill they goe forth agayne. And for that they onely keepe<br /> a fire in hamburgh they procure passes as hamburghers,<br /> and in such sort and not otherwise are hamburghers. And<br /> he further saith That the foresayd George or Urian Matison did<br /> acquaint this deponent, and affirme that he would and could depose<br /> That there were four shippes together att Cales in Spayne<br /> that is to say, the ''Salvador'' Christian Cloppeenburgh master,<br /> the ''Samson'' Otto Uriance master, the ''George'' John Marson master<br /> and the ''Mercurius'' hands Young master, and that all of<br /> them did there take in their lading for the space of three<br /> monethes, that the sylver was brought on board in the night, that<br /> the sayd four shipps did come from Cales together in Company,<br /> that all of them were bound from Cales to Amsterdam, and<br /> that the ''George'' and ''Samson'' were in their passage seized by the<br /> English, and the ''Salvador'' submitted her selfe to the English<br /> and that the ''Mercurius'' onely escaped, and went directly to<br /> Amsterdam, and delivered the sylver that was in her to the same<br /> persons Owners of the sylver that was in the sayd other three<br /> shipps that were taken and in the power of the English; And that<br /> he the sayd Urian Mattison came from Cales in the ''Mercurius'', and<br /> carryed part of the sylver from aboard to the merchants when he<br /> came to Amsterdam in little baskets upon his neck.
