but the said shipp Edward having good anchors and cables rode it out<br />
jocundly without any hurt or danger, and otherwise hee cannot answer.
To the fourth hee saith that the Edwardes owne Carpenter with the help of<br />
one man for a day or two in her longe boote going about her side,<br />
calked her betweene winde and water at New England, and that that<br />
was all the worke and repaire that was donne at her the said<br />
voyage, saveing some chares [?] and then donne at [?her] by her<br />
owne Carpenter alone, as is usuall in voyages to be donne by a shipps<br />
owne Carpenter. and otherwise hee cannot answer.
To the fifth hee saith that the said caskes were mainy of them old<br />
and defective and the heades and sides full of old hogges, by which the<br />
leakage (if any happened) was occasioned. and otherwise cannot<br />
answer.

To the first article of the said allegacion hee saith and deposeth that hee<br />
well knoweth the producentes Thomas Bensen John Cotton and ffrederic<br />
Kallowe and hath soe donne for a yeere and halfe last past or thereaboutes<br />
and hath knowne the shipp the hope arlate for theise foure yeeres last or<br />
thereaboutes, and that they and company have but for all the time arlate and<br />
are commonly accompted the true and lawfull owners and proprietors of the<br />
shipp the hope arlate and of her tackle and furniture which hee<br />
knoweth haveing for a yeere and a halfe before her seizure hereafter mentioned<br />
bein stiersman of her, and saith hee alsoe well knoweth the arlate Thomas<br />
and Andrew Tailor and that they and the said Colten and Benson were and are<br />
