mentioned in the sayd 4th article and now particulerly read over unto him at<br />
the tyme of this his examination all which belonged to the sayd Rankin the<br />
Owner aforesayd of the sayd shipp and her provisions which hee knoweth for the<br />
reasons aforesayd being master of the sayd vessell the ''Saint Peter'' at her<br />
seizure, and takeing thereby the better notice thereof And saith for that<br />
hee after his arrivall at Portsmouth and his coming up thence to London about<br />
his necessarie occasions, hee this deponent made a iourney from London to<br />
Portsmouth on purpose to see in what state the sayd vessell and her provisions<br />
then were, and went on board her and tooke expresse notice what was<br />
wanting her thereby found that all the perticulers mentioned in the<br />
sayd fifth article and now alsoe particulerly read over unto him were (since the<br />
takeing of the sayd vessell the ''Saint Peter'' by the sayd ''Portsmouth ffrigott'') taken<br />
and imbeazelled out of her the ''Peter'', which perticulers mentioned<br />
in the sayd 5th article and soe taken and imbeselled were worth forty<br />
five pounds sterling at the least, and moreover hee saith that besides the<br />
perticulers mentioned in the sayd 5th article this deponent did then alsoe observe<br />
that there were Carpenters tooles imbezelled which alsoe belonged to<br />
the sayd shipp ''Saint Peter'' worth forty shillings sterling and better And further<br />
hee cannot depose./
To the 6th hee saith the arlate henry Rankin is a Merchant and Inhabitant<br />
of Edenburrough and hath of this deponents knowledge there kept<br />
his wife and family and resided there him selfe (at such tymes as his busines will<br />
permitt) for these five yeares last past, and hath heard and beleeveth that hee is alsoe<br />
a native of Scotland, and knoweth hee is generall reputed a native of Scotland and<br />
a subiect of this Commonwealth And further hee cannot depose/
To the last hee saith his foregoeing deposition is true./

To the first hee saith hee hath lived in Kerkaulde aforesayd from his birth, being<br />
there borne, and saith hee is not of Kinne nor any way related to the producent<br />
saving as hee is Master of the ''Saint Peter'' by his appointment, and hath noe share or<br />
interest in the goods claymed, and to the rest of the Interrogatorie hee saith hee hath satisfied<br />
the contents thereof in his foregoeing deposition./
To the 2 hee saith hee hath satisfied the contents thereof soe farr as hee can in<br />
his foregoeing deposition And further cannot answere/
To the third hee saith hee hath fully satisfied and answered the contents thereof<br />
in his foregoeing deposition to which hee referreth and further cannot answere/
To the 4th hee saith that being present at and privie to the treatie betwixt the sayd<br />
Rankin and Pape touching the sale of the sayd shipp ''Saint Peter'' and provisions in her hee is well assured the<br />
sayd Rankin bought her and her sayd provisions for him selfe and not for any subiect<br />
of the ffrench King, and that the sayd Rankins name was not therein colourably used<br />
in trust for any other And further hee cannot answere./
To the 5th by vertue of his Oath hee saith, hee beleeveth in his conscience that noe<br />
part of the shipp Interrogate doth belonge to any ffrenchman or subiect of the ffrench King<br />
and saith hee beleeveth the same doth wholly belonge to the sayd Rankin, and hee<br />
saith hee knoweth not nor beleeveth that the sayd Rankin hath transferred any part<br />
thereof to any other person whatsoever And further hee cannot answere./
To the 6th hee saith saving his foregoeing deposition hee cannot answere otherwise<br />
