Transcription arlate formerly called the ''Love'' and noarlate formerly called the ''Love'' and now called the ''Mary'' (whereof the arlate Richard Thompson was Master) and thereby<br /> the better knowetg that upon or about two of the clock in the morning of the two<br /> and twentith day of June last past the sayd vessell the ''Love'' was comming up<br /> the River of Thames against the tyde betwixt Blackwall and Greenwich<br /> and came as neere the shoare as conveniently shee could<br /> it being then ebbing water, And saith that at the same<br /> tyme the vessell the ''REbeccca'' arlate (whereof as he hath heard and beleeveth<br /> the arlate Thomas [?Painter] was Master) came downe with the tyde of<br /> Ebb very little winde being then stirring And the sayd vessell the ''Rebecca'' comeing neere<br /> the shoare and with the tyde of Ebbe<br /> and neere the vessell the ''Love'' aforesayd the Master of the ''Rebecca'' or<br /> some of the Company thereof spake to the sayd Thompson<br /> and Company of the ''Love'' and bid them first starr board, and then imediately [?bad] them port their<br /> helme, And the sayd Thompson being himselfe at the helme accordingly<br /> did soe and steered as neere the shoare as possible hee could without<br /> puting his bessell the ''Love'' on ground and then told the sayd [?Printer] that hee the sayd Thompson was as neere the shoare with his vessell which notwithstanding the sayd<br /> vessell the ''Rebecca'' holding on her course did runne her boltspritt against<br /> the Mayne mast and mayne sayle of the sayd shipp the ''Love'' and soe<br /> cleered off againe without receaving any hurt at all from the ''Love'' soe farr as<br /> this deponent being theron board the ''Love'' could or did observe, And hee<br /> further saith that about fower or five<br /> dayes after the premisses soe happened as before is declareed, the sayd<br /> [?Printer] and an other man whome this deponent did then and doth beleeve to [?be]<br /> one of his the sayd [?Printers] shipps company) came to the sayd Thompsons<br /> house in Saint Katherines and desyred to speake with the sayd Thompson who [?was]<br /> not then within, and hee not being within, the sayd [?Printer] told this deponent<br /> that his sayd shipp the ''Rebecca'' and the goods in her was damaged by reason shee fell [?fowle]<br /> on the ''Love'' and desyred this deponent to tell the sayd Thompson<br /> thereof and desyre him the sayd Thompson to come and view yje samage done and [?this]<br /> deponent then speakeing to the man who came with the sayd [?Printer]<br /> asked him whether the company of the sayd shipp the ''Rebecca'' did pumpe<br /> heer presently after her falling fowle of the ''Love'' and search her whether shee were dammaged or to that effect [?whereto]<br /> hee answered that they did pumpe her presently after her falling fowle<br /> as aforesayd and search her but could not then perceive that the sayd ''Rebecca'' had [?received]<br /> any damage thereby And further to these articles hee cannot depose [?saving]<br /> hee saith hee hath heard the sayd vessell the ''Rebecca'' sayled soe [?lower ?to]<br /> Woolwich the same tyde of ebb after shee fell fowle of the ''Love'' [?as]<br /> aforesayd./ To the 6th hee saith that hee knoweth of noe damage done by the shipp<br /> the ''Love'' aforesayd to the sayd shipp ''Rebecca'', and saith that in case<br /> any damage was done to the sayd ''REbecca'' by her falling fowle<br /> of the ''Love'' aforesayd in manner aforesayd, the same was and happened (in this<br /> deponents judgement) through the carelessenes and neglect of [?the]<br /> master and company of the ''Rebecca'' and by their comeing soe neere [?the]<br /> shoare upon the tyde of ebb, whereas their safest way tp avoide [?XXX]<br /> andafest way tp avoide [?XXX]<br /> and  +
