'''William Maior''' of Saint Olaves in Southwarke in the<br />
County of Surry Blacksmith, where he hath<br />
lived about two yeares, aged 24 yeares, a<br />
wittnes produced and sworne and being examined<br />
he deposeth and saith as followeth.
To the first article of the sayd Libell given in and administred<br />
on the sayd Carters behalfe he deposeth and saith That he the<br />
deponent did in the months arlate very well know and was<br />
often aboard the shipp the ''Relief'' arlate, and that in these<br />
months the arlate John Edge was the Master or Comander of the<br />
said shipp, The premisses he well knoweth aswell by that he this<br />
deponent was in the months arlate often aboard her and therby<br />
saw that the sayd Edge had the command of her, as alsoe for<br />
that the sayd Edge did in this deponents sight and hearing<br />
give order to the producent and this deponent (in case of<br />
the said producents absence) to send unto the said shipp whatsoever<br />
either his Gunner, Boatswaine or Carpenter showld [?comand GUTTER]<br />
for, for the use of the said shipp And further to the<br />
sayd article he cannot depose.
To the second and third articles of the sayd Libell and to the<br />
schedule therein mentioned and now at his examination read over<br />
unto him he this deponent saith that he being fforeman in the<br />
shopp of the producent in the moneths arlate doth very well know that all the<br />
goods, wares, materialls and provisions mentioned and particularized<br />
in the sayd schedule were the proper goods of the sayd producent<br />
and that all the sayd goods, wares, materialls and provisions<br />
were all delivered aboard the sayd shipp for her the sayd<br />
shipps use and repayre The premisses he knoweth for that by<br />
the direction of the said Edge there were Tallyes kept betwixt<br />
both partyes concerning the delivery of the said iron=goods, and<br />
that the Tally for the producent was kept by him this deponent<br />
and that therfore he was ever present when any of the<br />
said goods schedulate were delivered aboard for the said shipps<br />
use, And further to the said articles and schedule he cannot<br />
depose.
To the fourth article of the said Libell and to the schedule therein<br />
mentioned he deposeth and saith That the said goods, wares,<br />
materiallls and provisions mentioned in the said schedule were<br />
honsestly worth the severall and respective summs at which they<br />
ther are rated in the said schedule, And he saith that he<br />
was present when the arlate John Edge and the producent<br />
did bargaine for the goods schedulate at the prices or [?XXX GUTTER]<br />
schedulate, And that in his this deponents iudgement, who had<br />
bin at the trade of a Blacksmith these nine yeares last past<br />
the said goods (being very good and substantiall) were<br />
really worth the said rates, which in all doth amount unto<br />
