Transcription The 16th day of february .<u>1654.&lThe 16th day of february .<u>1654.</u> [CENTRE HEADING] Keats and Jennings against ffrederick}<br /> Chewne and others. Smith. Budd.} Examined upon an Allegation exhibited the<br /> 5th of January <u>1654</u>. on the behalfe of the said<br /> Keats and Jennings./ '''Henry Hughes''' of deptford in the County of<br /> Kent Roape Merchant aged 23. yeares or thereabouts.<br /> a Wittnes sworne and examined:/ To the first Article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth, That the<br /> Cotton woolls and goods arlate were delivered out at Porta fferara<br /> arlate to George Norleigh ffactor and Agent to and for the arlate<br /> Alderman fredericke Chewne and Companie, and upon such their delivery<br /> by this deponent in the name and on the behalfe of Captaine George hughes this deponent<br /> at and upon the command of the said Norleigh pretending Order from<br /> his Principalls to that purpose, did, though with much reluctance, permitt the<br /> same to be wweighed, and so delivered to the said factor, who refused to<br /> receive the same upon any other termes. The premisses hee well knoweth as<br /> being the person who delivered the said Merchandizes as abovesaid. And<br /> further cannot depose./ To the second hee saith, That at the time of the weighing of the said goods<br /> this deponent was not permitted to come neere the Stillyard where the same were<br /> weighed, because that according to the Custome observed at Porta fferrara<br /> no stranger is permitted to come neere the goods delivered into the Lazaretta<br /> till such time as they have passed their full Purgation. And further cannot<br /> depose/:- To the third hee saith, That hee this deponent was present at and saw the<br /> bringing out of the weights of the Stillyard wherewith the said Cottons and galls were<br /> weighed, out of a warehouse in the said place of Lazaretta, the same then<br /> lyeing upon the ground and being as this deponent saw and observed over=<br /> growne with rust and very unfitting in this deponents Judgment for the exact<br /> weighing of any goods or merchandizes whatsoever. And further cannot depose To the 4th hee saith, That hee this deponent by the Credible relation of the<br /> Pursers of the shipps the ''Mary Rose'' and ''William and Thomas'' (which<br /> discharged their ladeings at Porta fferrara at one and the same time as<br /> the ''Thomas Bonadventure'') was informed, That Cotton woolls and galls<br /> and other goods unladen out of the said respective shipps being weighed<br /> at Porta fferrara, and afterwards conveied to<br /> Leghorne, and there reweighed were found and observed to be of<br /> much greater weight being weighed at Leghorne then when weighed<br /> at Porta fferrara, and this deponents seeing and observing the weighing of<br /> sewerall goods belonging to particular Merchants out of the said shipp<br /> ''Thomas Bonadventure'' at Porta fferrara, and afterwards the<br /> re=weighing thereof at Legorne, did thereby find, that the said goods<br /> did very much advance<br /> (in the did very much advance<br /> (in the  +
