Transcription To the 7th hee was last at Amsterdam in thTo the 7th hee was last at Amsterdam in the yeare <u>1651.</u> and what<br /> estates of Brokers or Innkeepers there are or may be this deponent cannot<br /> declare, nor of such as lodge or entertaine Skippers or strangers but saith<br /> that such qualitie or profession doeth not render any person incapable of<br /> being a partner in a shipp, if hee have wherewith to procure the same<br /> And further hee cannot depose:-/ To the 8th hee saith, This deponent according to his foregoeing deposition to which hee<br /> referreth is fully assured, that the first voyage the shipp ''Sampson''<br /> interrate made after her originall building was from Lubeck to<br /> Cadiz in Spaine where this rendent first saw her in the yeare 1647:- and not to<br /> Amsterdam, And saith shee hath made two or three Voyages to Amsterdam<br /> out of Spaine, as hee hath heard, and once saw her there. And further cannot<br /> depose To the 9th hees saith, a Trumpeter may become a common saylor or Officer [?but]<br /> for his particular hee hath never knowme or heard, how such a person is usually<br /> styled or called upon such an alteration/ To the 10th and 11. hee saith, hee this rendent was Master and Commander of the shipp ''Salvador'' at the<br /> time of the seizure interrate; and that the place or part of the English Channell<br /> where the shipps interrate were seized by some of the shipps of<br /> this Commonwealth was and is free for shipps that are there, if so<br /> designed to sayle for Amsterdam or any other place the winde so serving [?either]<br /> to Ostend or dunquirke/ To the 12th hee saith hee this deponent was with his said shipp ''Salvador'' at Cadiz<br /> in the moneth of June <u>1652.</u> and continued there till October next en=<br /> sueing, but was not at all that yeare at dunquirke, and last saw the shipp the<br /> ''Goulden Sunn'' interrate about the moneth of June aforesaid at her departure<br /> from Cadiz for fflanders as is predeposed./ To the 13th hee saith, by Vertue of his Oath, That hee this rendent had noe<br /> intelligence or notice of any silver laden aboard the shipps interrate at Cadiz<br /> which was for the accompt of any Amsterdammers or any others of the United<br /> Netherlands, And that hee this rendent had not, nor knew of any direction<br /> for Assurance, having not deposed of any letters sent from fflanders or elsewhere in [?XXX XXXX XXXX]<br /> And saith hee doeth not know nor beleeve in Conscience, That any of the<br /> States Generall of the United Netherlands or of their Subjects have any<br /> interest or concernment in the silver so assured as by him is predeposed or<br /> any other silver laden in the said shipps or any of them:- And further<br /> cannot depose./ Repeated before doctor Clarke:-// Christjan Cloppenb[?orough] [SIGNATURE, RH SIDE] ************************************** The 5th day of december 1654:- [CENTRE HEADING] Examined upon the said Allegation:-/ '''8us/''' '''John Martenson-Dorp''' of hamborough [?Mariner]<br /> aged 53. yeares or thereabouts a Wittnes sworne<br /> and examined saith as followeth videlicet.
