''Sampson'' shee hath of this deponents ob … ''Sampson'' shee hath of this deponents observation been constantly and continually<br />
reputed and taken amongst Merchants and Mariners for a shipp belonging<br />
to the said Port of Lubeck, and hath never amongst persons of Creditt<br />
so farr as this deponent hath heard, been observed reputed or taken to bee<br />
a shipp belonging to Amsterdam or to any other port or place person or persons<br />
in obsedience to the States of the United Netherlands. And further to this<br />
article hee saith hee cannot depose./
To the 5th article hee saith, Thay the arlate Otto George in the moneths of<br />
November or december in the yeare <u>1653.</u> last past being sick and diseased did<br />
of this deponents certaine knowledge imbarque himselfe in the shipp the ''Neptune'' of<br />
hamborough, Martin holst Master for hamborough with an intention to goe<br />
to Lubeck, wher as this deponent hath since understood, hee not long after did<br />
arrive, and after such his arrivall dyed there, and was there buried in the quality<br />
of a free Burgher and Citizen of Lubeck, and so much hee saith is publique<br />
and notorious amongst Merchants and Mariners of those parts. And further<br />
hee cannot depose/:-
To the 6th article jee saith, That hee this deponent well knoweth the<br />
arlate Peter Eleson a Broker and inne-keeper at Amsterdam, and saith<br />
that hee this deponent first came to know the said Peter Eleson about the<br />
moneth of June in the yeare <u>1653.</u> last past, amd saith, the said Peter Eleson<br />
at that time was a Broker to and for Easterling schippers, and so commonly<br />
reputed and taken, And saith That the said shipp the ''Sampson'', so farr as this<br />
deponent hath heard and verily beleeveth, was not at Amsterdam or any other<br />
place in holland since the time of her seizure and confiscation by the ffrench att<br />
Tholon, which happened in the yeare <u>1651.</u> or thereabouts, and the redemption<br />
thereof at or about the same time by her former Owners of Lubeck and Spaine<br />
as this deponent then being in Spaine was credibly informed; And saith this<br />
deponent hath never heard neither doeth hee in Conscience beleeve that the arlate<br />
Peter Eleson either ever was part Owner or in a Capacity to be part Owner of<br />
a shipp of so great consequence as the said ''Sampson'' was and is nor that the<br />
said Otto George did ever make any accompt ro the said Eleson in any such<br />
notion or quality. And further hee cannot depose./
To the 7th hee saith, That the shipp the ''Sampson'' arlate made her very first<br />
Voyage from Lubeck to Spaine in the yeare 1647. last past and not before<br />
the said Otto George being first made Skipper of her about december 1646. or in the<br />
beginning of the ensueing yeare 1647. in which yeare this deponent saw her in<br />
Spaine under the Conduct of the said Otto George; And otherwise, saving his<br />
foregoeing deposition to which hee referreth, hee cannot, as hee saith depose./
To the 8th hee saith, That in the yeare <u>1652.</u> arlate, this deponent being<br />
