thereabouts a Wittnes sworne and examined saith<br />
and deposeth as followeth videlicet.
To the first Article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth, That hee this<br />
deponent very well knoweth the arlate William Pym, and hath so knowne<br />
him from his this deponents infancie hee being this deponents brother, and borne at<br />
[?drowes] Taynton in the County of devon, and well knowne to be a Native of<br />
that place and a Subject of this Commonwealth , and for such commonly and<br />
generally reputed. And further cannot depose./:
To the second Article of the said Allegation hee saith and deposeth, That for all the<br />
time arlate, videlicet for and in the yeares 1646. 1647. 1648. 1649. 1650. 1651.<br />
and 1652. and moneths therein respectively concurring, the arlate William<br />
Pym. did live and reside at Saint Mallo in ffrance in the qualitie of an<br />
English ffactor and was for all the said time employed in that condition by<br />
Mr. Richard fford, Thomas fford Nathaniel Maunton Thomas<br />
Lambe and Mr. Bludworth and sewerall other English Merchants of great<br />
quality, by which his employmenty as factor, the said William Pym did yearely<br />
and every yeare gett and gaine five hundred pounds stereling per annum, The<br />
premisses this deponent well knoweth having himselfe personally dwelt in Saint Malo<br />
aforesaid for about 4. yeares of the yeares predeposed in the same howse with<br />
the said William Pym his brother, and by that meanes having familiar<br />
accesse to and being frequently employed in the affaires and accompts of the said<br />
William Pym, whereby hee came to have particular knowledge of the benefitts<br />
and profitts arising and accrewing yearly to him, by his imployment of factorage<br />
as aforesaid. And further cannot depose./:
To the third Article hee saith, That in the moneth of december <u>1652.</u> last past<br />
the said William Pym then being at Saint Mallo in ffrance at the instance and<br />
sollicitation of the English ffactors then living at Saint Mallo, and on the behalfe<br />
of the English Merchants of the West of England useing that trade and some<br />
inhabitants of Saint Mallo came from thence for England to sollicite the then Parliament<br />
and then Councill of State for a free trade and Commerce between England<br />
and Saint Mallo. and accordingly arrived in England in or about January then next<br />
ensueing, and after such his arrivall did by petition represent the said busines<br />
wherein he was employed to the then Councill of State, who referred the same<br />
to the then Committee of forraigne affaires, where the said William Pym did<br />
negotiate and sollicite the same, And so much hee saith is publique and notorious<br />
this deponent being and residing at Saint Mallo in the said William Pym his house when<br />
hee undertooke and came for England upon the designe predeposed. And further<br />
