signed the said bill (being as hee this deponent was informed) told that the baggs were<br />
without marke they acknowledged it to be soe, and that that was only<br />
the marke of the chest wherein the same were put. And otherwise hee<br />
cannot depose.
To the third article and schedule aforesaid hee saith and deposeth that<br />
after the lading of the said plate, silver and goods this deponent sawe the<br />
bills of lading for the same signed by the said Otto George or his<br />
Purser, and hee beleeveth that one of every of the bills signed for the<br />
same came alonge in the said shipp in the custodie of the master thereof<br />
and are since brought into this Court, and saith the said signing was soe<br />
donne at Cales, and that the same were and are true and reall.<br />
for the quantities laden And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the fourth hee saith that after such time as the said parcells of<br />
silver and gods were laden aboard the said shipp as aforesaid, the<br />
said shipp departed and sett saile therewith thence and the said<br />
producent came alonge in the said shipp with the same, and comming<br />
into the Channell shee was met with and seized by one of<br />
the frigots of this Commonwealth, And at the time of the said<br />
seizure all the said moneys plate and goods were aboard her and came<br />
in the said shipp into the possession of the said man of warr who<br />
made the said seizure, which hee knoweth because hee alsoe came passenger<br />
in the said shipp, and sawe the premisses soe donne.
To the fifth hee saith that in case the said shipp the ''Sampson'' had not<br />
with her said lading bin seized, shee had gonne directly for Ostend or<br />
dunquirke, and had there delivered the said silver to the said producent<br />
And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 6 hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing deposition, and otherwise<br />
hee cannot depose.
To the 7th hee saith that the said Laurance da Velez was and is a<br />
native of Dunquirke (as hee hath bin informed) and was and is a subiect of the<br />
kinge of Spaine and for such commonly accompted and reputed, and<br />
hath for many yeares last namely for nineteene yeares of this deponents<br />
knowledge traded from Spaine to the West Indies and carried many<br />
goods with him from fflanders and Spaine to the said Indies,<br />
which hee knoweth having gonne five severall voyages with him<br />
thither. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first hee saith hee imbarqued in the said shipp ''Sampson'' at<br />
Cales and had bin about a moneth in her when shee was seized, and<br />
was only a passenger and none of her company.
To the second hee saith hee doth knowe two persons at Cadiz both<br />
by the name of John Baptista [?Steine] and hath knowne them about<br />
foure or five yeares, and otherwise hee cannot depose saving as<br />
aforesaid.
To the third hee saith hee sawe one of the said persons by the name of John<br />
Baptista [?Steine] of Cadiz goe aboard the shipp the ''Sampson'' in the bay of<br />
Cadiz and carry a chest and some other things aboard the contents<br />
whereof hee knoweth not, And otherwise hee cannot answer, but<br />
conceriveth the name of the said John Baptista [?Staine] is only used that [?Velez] might not be discovered.
To the fourth hee saith that the said Lorenzo da Veles is a batchelour<br />
and a houskeeper in Cadiz where hee keepeth his [?XXXX] familie<br />
and hath soe donne about [??46] yeares.
