Lane London merchant aged 44 yeares or thereabouts<br />
a witnes sworne and examined deposeth and saith<br />
as followeth videlicet.
To the sayd allegation and severall articles therein This deponent saith that he<br />
knoweth well the arlate Peter Mathewes Arnold Beake and William<br />
Moore all Merchants living and inhabiting in this Citty of London<br />
and keepes the bookes of Accopts of the sayd William Moore<br />
and thereby is well acquainted with the trade and dealing<br />
of the producents the sayd Moore, Peter Mathewes and Arnold Beake<br />
in their trade for Spaine they three mannaging a trade<br />
there for their owne accomp in partnershipp, for which purpose<br />
they have one Common factor att Cadiz by name ffrancisco da la Sierpe<br />
to whom they send merchandizes from hence and fflanders, and<br />
receyve sylver from him as returnes thereof, which sayd ffrancisco<br />
de la Sierpe as by his letter of advise sent to the producents to this<br />
Citty, and bearing date on or about the 26th day of July 1652.<br />
which letter this deponent hath long agoe seene and perused, did<br />
appeare, did about the end of July or beginning of August 1652<br />
lade[?s] on board the arlate shipp the ''Salvador'' whereof Christian<br />
Cloppenbergh was master then lyeing att Cadiz, two barretons<br />
of fine sylver weighing together sixty two markes and six ounces<br />
marked as in the margent for the sole and proper accompt of the sayd

Mr Peter Mathewes Arnold Beake and William Moor, (which<br />
said persons were and are subiects of this Commonwealth and well affected<br />
to the Government thereof,) and that he caused the same to be consigned to<br />
Peter Lams of Ostend to follow the order of Mr Robert Laman of<br />
Antwerpe, which sayd Leman this deponent knoweth for the reasons<br />
aforesayd to be the factor and Correspondent of the producents and one<br />
that does busines for them att Antwerpe) and is well assured<br />
that he was to have disposed of the sylver aforesayd onely as the producents<br />
factor and to their use. And being now shewne the bill of lading<br />
allegat upon a file in the Registry of this Court; and finding the<br />
barretons of sylver mentioned therein as to the marke weight Lader<br />
consignement and order and otherwise to agree with the foresayd Letter of advise<br />
sent to the producent by ffrancisco de la Sierpe from Cadiz he is<br />
well assured that the sayd bill of lading was and is one of the originall<br />
bills of lading for the sayd two barretons of sylver claymed by<br />
the producents in this Cause. and beleiveth the sayd sylver was on<br />
board the ''Salvador'' aforesayd att the tyme of her seizure, which seizure<br />
by common report was made by some of the shipps of this Commonwealth<br />
in the English Channell in the ''Salvadores'' Course from Cadiz<br />
to Ostend. And otherwise or further he cannot depose.
