the English tongue which he very little understands or speakes<br />
and the Commissioners and Notary, that did examined him did not<br />
nor could speak ffrench so farr as he heard or beleiveth which<br />
was and is his native language and the language spoken in Jersey<br />
and saith he did refuse to sett his hand to his sayd examinatin<br />
which a notary did write, not because he did understand that<br />
any part thereof was contrary to his mind or truth, but because<br />
he did not att all understand what was so writt downe having<br />
never heard the same read to him, but saith that in case any<br />
thing there be contrary to what in this his deposition is now<br />
declared the same so farr as it is contrary is contrary to his<br />
mynd and to the truth of the fact in this Cause

merchant aged 21 yeares or thereabouts<br />
a witnes sworne and examined deposeth and<br />
saith as followeth videlicet.
To the first article of the sayd allegation This deponent saith that the arlate James<br />
Pinquet whom he hath well knowne for theis six yeares and upwards<br />
was and is by common repute a fflandrian borne and for theis 6<br />
yeares last past hath bene and now is an Inhabitant of<br />
Antwerpe where he hath his wife and family att this present and<br />
so hath had for theis six yeare last past of the certaine knowledge<br />
of this deponent, who hath bene for all the sayd tyme his booke holder<br />
and so is att this present, and thereby knoweth that he the sayd James Pincquet<br />
for theis six yeares past hath driven a Constant trade from Roan<br />
to Cadiz in Spaine with linnen Cloth and hath had and still hath his<br />
factors and agents in Roane and Cadiz and hath within the sayd tyme<br />
sent and remitted severall good quantityes of money and ordered bills of<br />
exchange to Roane for the buying of linnen there and sending<br />
the same to Cadiz from thence for and upon his owne accompt<br />
And further he cannot depose.
To the second third and fourth articles of the sayd allegation This deponent<br />
saith that in the monethes of August September October November<br />
December January ffebruary and March 1652. and allso in March and<br />
April 1653 last past the arlate James Pinquet was Owner and Proprietor<br />
of 132 baeles of linnen of severall sorts and numbers marked as in the<br />
margent, and that within and for and during all the sayd monethes<br />
the arlate Jaques ffermanel of Roan was and att present is the<br />
factor and Agent of the sayd James Pinquet, and that about the<br />
sayd month of July 1652 the sayd James Pinquet did give order to the sayd<br />
ffermanel to buy and provide for him the sayd Pinquet a large<br />
quantity sayd Pinquet a large<br />
