aged 41 yeares or thereabouts sworne<br />
and examined./
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that it is notorious that<br />
a shipp whereof Otto George is or lately was commander named the<br />
''Sampson'' said to be of Lubeck or Port Santa Maria in Spaine, another named<br />
the ''Salvador'' of hamburgh Christian Cloppenburgh master, and another<br />
named the ''Peter'' Daniel Straetman master have bin lately staid<br />
by some shipp or shipps of the Parliaments fleete.
To the second and third hee saith hee nowe knoweth the severall masters<br />
aforesaid namely since such their stay and their comming to ths citie, but<br />
hee knewe the said Otto George and Christian Cloppenburgh<br />
before by name and relation, having often heard of their arivall<br />
at Dover from Spaine with severall cargo's of goods and silver,<br />
and that hee doth not knowe any of their shipps companie. And<br />
further that since the said shipps were seized hee hath bin severall<br />
times in companie of the said commannders, and that hee hath seene<br />
in the custodie of the said Otto George and Christian Cloppenburgh<br />
namely in the hands of each of them a booke or catalogue of the<br />
lading aboard his shipp, which each of them said was a copie of what<br />
they had delivered to be sent into this Court, but hee sawe noe<br />
other writings, bills or documents in the hands of them or either<br />
of them, and that in the said catalogues or bookes it appeared to whom<br />
the said lading of moneys coyned and uncoyned silver and merchandizes<br />
were consigned,<br />

otherwise hee cannot depose. saving it did not appeare to him<br />
Otto George for whose account any of the money or goods aboard were laden, but in the booke of Cloppenburgh it appeared<br />
in or by the booke for whose account<br />
in some places for whose account the goods were and further that<br />
they the said commanders did not acquaint him that<br />
they had any such bookes or writings in their custodie as [?XXXX]<br />
declare for whose accompt the same were, other then as aforesaid and what they had<br />
delivered up to be sent to this Court, but told him positively<br />
that they had noe further bookes, documents bills or writings<br />
in their custodie, and saving the said Straetman told him that hee<br />
had not any booke or writing in his custodie<br />
but that hee had delivered up all to be sent into this Court<br />
only hee told this deponent some of the particulars of his lading<br />
and for whose accompt they were according to which this deponent gave the<br />
proctor retained in that behalfe order to put in the claimes for such as were his correspondents being<br />
such persons as lived in Spaine and hamburgh.
To the fourth hee saith hee caused an abstract or transcript of the<br />
said catalogues to be taken which hee hath still in his custodie, but<br />
the writings soe showd him by the said masters, hee redelivered unto them<br />
and they for ought hee knoweth to the contrary have them still in their<br />
custodie. And otherwise hee cannot depose. saving that his precontest<br />
James Stanier had alsoe the perusall of the said copies, and that the Spanish Embassadour<br />
had the same alsoe in his custodie:/
