To the first hee saith hee went first from Lubeck with the said shipp with<br />
Pipestaves and came therewith in the downes and there tooke in 139 [?XX XXX]<br />
peaces of goods for Cadiz, and there dischardged the same, and<br />
this hee saith was in the yeare 1647. and thence hee came with [?money] and<br />
tobaccoe and other goods into the downes and thence to Amsterdam (having landed part [?thereof]<br />
in the downes) And there hee laded peace goods, and came thence three<br />
yeares since into the downes and tooke other peace goods aboard from<br />
London bound againe for Cadiz, where the same were delivered, and<br />
ever since till his coming [?XXX]<br />
lately into the downes, where hee was stopt, hee hath bin trading with<br />
the said vessell betwixt Cadiz and [?ports] in the Streights as aforesayd.
To the second hee saith hee was never freighted in grosse, but [?XXX]<br />
to be paid for each peace according to bills of lading, and was<br />
not to carry the worth of a penny of any of his present<br />
lading for Amsterdam or other place of the dominions of<br />
the States of the United Netherlands, and otherwise saving his<br />
foregoeing deposition and referring himselfe to his said bills and book[?e]<br />
hee cannot depose.
To the third hee saith the said shipp was never at hamburgh<br />
and that when hee redeemed her from the ffrench as aforesaid it<br />
was for accompt of the said owners, and otherwise negatively<br />
saving as aforesaid.
To the fourth hee saith that when hee was taken as aforesaid by the<br />
ffrench which was about a yeare since, hee was carried with<br />
the said shipp to Tolon, and saith that when hee went last to<br />
[?Lighorne] hee went [?XX] [?lade] goods, and thought to have gonne with<br />
some English and a dutch convoy thence for Cadiz, but meeting<br />
none hee went alone, and this hee saith was about [?XX] moneth[?s]<br />
since and before any trouble betwixt England and holland.<br />
And otherwise negatively.
To the fifth hee saith hee brought bales of silke paper<br />
[?rice] [??XXXXXXed] and [?severall] other sorts of peace goods from<br />
Genua and legorne last to Cadiz, which were for accompt of<br />
severall Genoeses and Spaniards, and otherwise hee cannot answer<br />
saving as aforesaid.
To the 6th hee saith hee came last to Cadiz in May last and [?staid]<br />
there till the moneth pf October last, and otherwise saving his<br />
said booke and bills hee cannot answer.
To the 7th and 8th hee saith there was silver laden in the<br />
''Salvador'' (Christian Cloppenburgh master) and in the ''George'' (John [?Martens]<br />
master) at Cadiz whilest the ''Sampson'' was there, both which [?shipps]<br />
the ''Salvador'' and ''Saint George'' hee saith are of hamborough, and<br />
otherwise negatively for his part, but what Christian<br />
Cloppenburgh said to his company or others hee knoweth not.
To the 9th hee saith hee knoweth nothing of any such letters or<br />
orders as are interrogated, nor did any such letter or order or [?the ?copie]<br />
thereof come to his hands or [?XXX], and otherwise hee cannot answere.
To the last hee saith that there is noe silver [?hidX] in the said shipp<br />
nor any but what is entred in his booke aforesaid brought<br />
into this Court, some part of which silver hee saith is<br />
under his merchandize [?on] the ballast./
