Commannder of the said vessell the<br />
''Samson'' aged 37 yeares or thereabouts<br />
sworne before the right worshipfull John Exton<br />
doctor of lawes one of the Judges of the<br />
high Court of the Admiraltie and examined<br />
upon certaine Interrogatories ministred on the behalfe of the<br />
State saith as followeth videlicet.
To the first and second Interrogatories hee saith and deposeth that<br />
his owners were and are all Spaniards and dutch, and this deponent<br />
a lubecker, namely Vincent Van Campen of Cadiz in Spaine<br />
owner of an eighth part, John de Windt of the same owner of an<br />
eighth part and ffrederico Bevia of the same of an eighth part<br />
daniel da Lione and ffrancis Peralti of the same ioyntly of an eighth part<br />
Robert [?Jacomo] of the same of an eighth part, Cornelis [?Lemans] of the<br />
same of an eighth part and heee this deponent of Lubeck of an eighth<br />
part, and saith the said Vincent van Campen, daniel Lione, and<br />
ffrancis Panninck were and are all natives of hamborow and John de<br />
Windt of Cortrijke in fflannders and this deponent of [?XXXX] in [?Lunenverg]<br />
and that hee this deponent liveth at present at Lubeck and hath soe donne for theise<br />
nine yeares last and before that two yeares at [?Luckstat] in danmarke, and<br />
further that the said Robert [?Jacomo] was and is a native of [?Rijssell]<br />
and Cornelis [?Lemons] of Antwerp, and that the said Vincent van<br />
Campen, daniel Lione, ffrancisco Panninck, John de Windt Robert<br />
Jacomo and Cornelis Lemmons have longe lived in Spaine namely<br />
every one at least fifteene yeares and the others more and that the<br />
said ffrederick Bevia, don Joseph and ffrancisco Peralti were<br />
and are Spaniards borne and there dwelling all their times, and<br />
that about five yeares since namely in the yeare 1647 this deponent<br />
on behalfe of his said owners bought the said shipp at Lubeck<br />
of Antonio Wessell a Lubecker, and paid for the same with their<br />
moneys, saving one Peter van den berck was then owner of the part<br />
of the said Cornelius Lemmon, who upon the said Peters death bought<br />
the said part, and saith the said Peter was alsoe a native of<br />
Cortrick and lived longe in Spaine, and died about two yeares since<br />
And upon the said buying the said shipp as aforesaid by this deponent<br />
the said Antonio Wessell made him a bill of sale thereof to the<br />
use of his said owners.
To the third hee saith that hee this examinate hath bin master of the<br />
said vessell ever since buying her, saving that the last yeare<br />
hee was interrupted in his said commannd for the space of three monethes<br />
by the ffrench who tooke her comming from Spaine bound for Gen[?oa]<br />
and sold her againe to this deponent, and saith shee was new built<br />
when this deponent soe bought her at Lubeck, and this deponent<br />
was constituted master by his said owners. And otherwise saving as aforesaid<br />
hee cannot depose.
To the fourth hee saith that the said shipp went in the yeare 1649 from<br />
Amsterdam for the downes and there tooke in goods brought from London<br />
to be transported for Cadiz, and [?and] [?come] from Cadiz last before [?her]<br />
late comming into the downes and his staying there, and that in the [?XXXX]
