and Examined deposeth
as followeth. videlicet That hee this deponent was one
of the Company of and belonging to the ship the ''Lawrell''
att such tyme as she came last from Smirna bound for Leghorne
And saith that when the said ship was about 25 leagues off
one of which after wards proved to bee a French man of warre and
the other a prize which shee had taken, which said ships were noe
of the said ship ''Lawrell'' said they were Englishe ships and therefore hee
would stay for them, and soe did accordingly, untill the Eveneing
at which tyme the said ffrenchman of warres Longboate came
up with the ''Lawrell'' and hawled them and demanded whence they
were and whither they were bound to which answere was returned
from the ''Lawrell'' that they were of England and they they were bound
for Leghorne which done the man of warres company told them
thought good long before the man of warre could have come up to her
And on the said Morning soe soone as it was daylight the said
Man of warre came up with the ''Lawrell'' and sent his boate
the said Maplesden to come abord, which hee did not doe, but
with them in his owne boate did send his Cheife Mate and a
give them satisfaction to such questions as they should demand
touching the said ship both which (sic) together with the said Boate were
by the said Man of warre detayned and kepte there without
returneing againe to the ''lawrell'' which gave this deponent
and all the rest of the Company abord the ''Lawrell'' great cause
to distrust the said man of warre, and to beleeve that they intended
noe good unto them. And further saith that soone after the premisses
the said Man of warre did againe send his boat with [?some CHECK NOT ONE] of
