To the 5th hee saith that John Kennett, William Avery, Paule [?XXXX]<br />
[?XX] Chirurgeon of the ''Pearry'', and this deponent did come from Tolloone<br />
in Mr Cookes ship interrate And saith that hee is very confident more<br />
of them (as well as this deponent and the rest of the said parties) might<br />
have come therein for England if they had soe thought fitt, but hee<br />
saith they had a greater mind to serve the ffrench (where they<br />
had 3 moneths paie proffered them before hand and a large [?XXX]<br />
or monthly pay besides) then to come home for their owne native<br />
countrey. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 6th Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that the Interrate James<br />
Perrotts Quarter with 11. or 12. men was abafte the Mast as is interrate<br />
And William Averys station as hee saith was afore the Mast with about<br />
6. men as hee remembreth, and the interrogate John Dyet was dureing the<br />
said fight with Symon Bayly in his quarter. And saith that<br />
soone after the beginning of the said fight hee this deponent<br />
comeing into the said Parrotts quarter found that hee was<br />
gone from thence, but whether, hee cannot tell, And further<br />
hee deposeth that hee this deponent comeing into the great<br />
Cabbin of the said ship the ''Pearry'' dureing the said fight did<br />
finde the interrogated John dyett after hee had quitt his<br />
station with his head under his precontest Mr Kennetts<br />
Bedd whereupon hee had used to lye, in his tyme of sicknesse<br />
there striveing to hide and shelter himselfe from the danger<br />
which through his cowardice hee too much apprehended, And<br />
hee likewise saith that after the said Perrott and Avery were<br />
gone from their quarters the men appointed to defend each<br />
place under theire comands did likewise leave the same too<br />
and soe left them open and endefended to the Enemie./ And<br />
further hee cannot depose./.
To the 7th hee saith that hee this deponent did see Captaine<br />
Ellison diverse tymes dureing the said fight passe to and<br />
fro from quarter to quarter visiteing and encourageing of<br />
his men to stand to him, And saith that he did himselfe<br />
followe him sometymes when hee did soe cherishe his companie<br />
as aforesaid, and sawe him helpe and furnishe his men<br />
with things as they stood in neede of dureing the said<br />
fight. and did thereby undergoe and runne many [?XXXXXX]<br />
dangers and hazards without the least shewe of<br />
the apprehension of death to this deponents knowledge<br />
hee being present and seeing his carriage and demeanour to<br />
