Ad primum et 2 arles deponit that hee this depot was steward of the vessell<br />
or man of warr called the ''Royall'' [?Herroneo] Bourne Captaine<br />
at the seizure of the shipp ''God liffe'' Michael Sansiers Master And saith that<br />
upon his the said Sansiers first coming on board the ''Royall'' hee the said<br />
Sansier stamping and fretting severe and passionately said that had hee<br />
knowne that the ''Royall'' had had soe few men on board he would not have<br />
bin taken he would have runne her over first, Which words of<br />
the like in effect hee soe spake in the Cabbin in the presence of this deponent<br />
and his precontest John Blackwall and the Captaine of the man of warr<br />
And shortly after namely within two days or thereabouts<br />
after the said seizure he the said Sansiers declared and acknowledged<br />
that his shipp and lading were good prize and that hee was bound<br />
for Amsterdam And saith the said Captaine Sansier did declare to him<br />
this deponent walking upon the said ''Royalls'' deck, that hee had bine<br />
Captaine of a Dutch private mann of warr under or by a Dutch Commission<br />
and had taken severall English merchant men, And that if hee lost<br />
his Shipp and goods (speaking of and meaning the Shipp and goods in question)<br />
he cared not for it (knowing that they were prize) hee had another<br />
Shipp provided for him in his Country a better vessell than this was, hee<br />
would therewith take English merchant men enough to make him<br />
selfe whole againe or words to that effect. And saith that about<br />
Seaven dayes after seizure hee the said Sansier in the evening of a day<br />
proffered this deponent tenn pounds if soe bee<br />
he would but suffer him to leap over board and swim to shore that<br />
hee might get to London and procure a passage to his owne country<br />
Saying that his Shipp and lading were prize but notwithstanding<br />
that hee cared not for it hee should quickly bee revenged upon<br />
the English merchants and make himselfe better than hee was before<br />
could hee but got into his Country, Saying that hee knoweth here to<br />
find and meete with the English merchants everey day, or in words<br />
to that effect, And such was his discourse as well in publique as<br />
in private and as well onshore as on board the ffriott and a<br />
Common discourse in Company upon any occasion, Et alr nescit saving<br />
this deponent telling the said Sansier that if hee lept over board hee would<br />
bee drowned hee told this deponent. that he feard it not ffor he could swim<br />
well enough. Whereupon this deponent was forced to put him in the hold and was<br />
forced to lye upon the hatch wrapped up in a saile least hee should have made an<br />
