The Île d'Oléron is an island off the Atlantic coast of France, due west of Rochefort. It is the second largest French island after Corsiaca. Coordinates: 45.9°N 1.3°W. The estuary of the Seudres river, on the nearby mainland, was known for its salt flats. Likewise, the Île d'Oléron, had salt pans.
