Transcription Ad 9 deponit that the said shipp ''SwedishAd 9 deponit that the said shipp ''Swedish Lyon'' with her said lading of salt on<br /> board was in her Course for Corke in Ireland namely about halfe Seas over from<br /> ?Ushing in ffrance to the landsend the wind being scant met with and seized by a<br /> private man of warr one Hampton then Commanderr and by him brought<br /> up into or neere ?ffoye aclate Et alre nescit. Ad 10 deponit that since the said seizure the said privateers Company have broken<br /> the said shipps bulke and have taken and plundred out of the said bulke about<br /> two thirds of the said salt to the best of this deponents judgment being part of the said shipps<br /> lading and belonging to the said Beake, and about three tonns of wines white<br /> and red and about five or six haffe hogsheads of Brandy belonging to the<br /> shipps company as this deponent hath bin informed by the [?XXr] and other of the Company and as hee guesseth by the lightnes of the shipp and have also taken away a New Cable about Eight<br /> Inches thicknes, and a halter also belonging to the said shipp and severall<br /> of the Companies Cloathes, and monies, and sailes Kettles and other<br /> the Shipps furniture and three barrells of [?cheese], and the bookes belonging to the said Knight<br /> And as this deponent who was a prisoner on shore at ffoy ?about some twelve dayes hath bin<br /> informed the said privateers used to and did put the Company of the said<br /> shipp ''Swedish Lyon'' into the Great cabbin when they had a mind to plunder<br /> or take anything out of the said shipp least the said Company should see what<br /> they soe tooke, and to that purpose they ordered a person to stand with a<br /> pistoll charged at the doore of the cabbin to keep them in. And saith that one<br /> William Pauley (who came onboard with Captaine Stanthwaite and who is now<br /> waiter on board the said shipp) stood with a pistoll to that purpose and hee the said Pawley<br /> hath confessed to this depo:t that hee was ordered by the privateers<br /> soe to doe.<br /> Et alr dicit predeporta pereum de vera:. Ad Interria. [CENTRE HEADING] Ad primum rendet that he went onboard and served in the said shipp soe soone<br /> as she was bought and hath served in her ever since untill her said seizure<br /> and is well assured that the shipp the ''Swedish Lyon'' is the same that<br /> was formerly called the ''Cumberland'' and was and is one and the same<br /> ship and not divers. Et alr referende sead predeporta. Ad 2 rendet that he saw the greatest part of the lading of salt put on board the said<br /> ship ''Swedish Lyon'' by order of the said Bailey for the said Beakes account but sawe noe mony paid<br /> for the same. and knoweth not whether hee bee related to any of the parties<br /> Interr. and knoweth note what he is worth, andoweth little or nothing. Et<br /> nescit so ad predeporta. Nescit. Ad 3 rendet that hee knwoeth not the parties Interrogate, and hath heard that Mr<br /> Samuell Beake Interrate hath corresponded withone [?Guill] living in fflushing as hee hath<br /> heard and remembreth. And denieth that the said lading or any part thereof was<br /> to have bin delivered at any other port whatsoever than Corke in Ireland<br /> And saith that the said shipp with her said lading was seized about 13 or 14 leagues<br /> from Ushiont to the best of his Judgement and saith that the place where she<br /> was seized is the way from Rochell to Amsterdam. and somewhat out of the<br /> way from Rochell to Corke. but was forced to steere that way the wind being<br /> betweene the West and the North west and very scant and thought it a greate<br /> deale better to fech any port in England than to Cruze at sea which they XXX<br /> ?not doe. Et alr nescit novo Ad 4 rendet that hee knoweth not of any bills of lading that were signed for the XXXX<br /> question But saith that the Master told this deponent that hee had signed one for Stockholme to XXX<br /> secure the goods.
