Transcription To the 3d article and Schedule therein menTo the 3d article and Schedule therein mentioned hee saith that the Master and Company of<br /> and on board the said Ship, did upon Good Consideration<br /> for the Safeguard of the said Shipp and Lading, and of<br /> their owne Lives. Cut downe the said Ships Maine<br /> Mast by the board and Cut away all the Tackling<br /> thereto belonging, and did Stave and Cast over board most<br /> of the Caske (OR, casks) of ffresh water, that the said Ship might bee<br /> Lightened. And saith that the said Mainemast, sheat<br /> Anchor. and all and Singular the tackle Appell and<br /> furniture of or belonging to the said Ship the ''Oporto Merchant''<br /> severally mentioned and set downe in thee Schedule, were<br /> Cast into, (and lost) in the sea, for the preservation of the said<br /> Ship, and at the time of such their loosing were well<br /> worth the severall summes mentioned, and set downe in<br /> the said schedule (now read over unto him). amounting in<br /> the whole to One hundred, fourty two pounds two shillings<br /> And beside the said goods and materialls hee saith the Missen saile Blowne<br /> away as aforesaid, was worth about foure pounds sterling<br /> And much damage done to the said Ships Rudder<br /> Sterne Post, and Stemme, the repaires whereof will Cost the<br /> said Owners about twenty pounds as he beleeveth The<br /> Premisses hee deposeth being Carpenter of the said Ship<br /> as aforesaid. And further cannot Depose./: To the 4th and 5th hee saith that During the Continuance<br /> of the said Storme. the Master and Company of the said Ship<br /> did Constantly ply both the Pumpes of the said ship and<br /> kept them Goeing, and the said Storme still Continuing<br /> the Company of the said ship were Constrained to bring<br /> the said Ships Starboard side to the sea. and the Ship being ?Turned<br /> her Spritsaile was blowne away and lost, and the next<br /> morning the said Storme, or Tempest abating the Master and<br /> Company through their great Paines did stop the said Leake<br /> made by the Said Anchor. and alsoe the Leake, at the helme<br /> Port, and freed her of the water. And saith the said Ship<br /> at her said departure from the Barbadoes and Imediately before<br /> the said Dammage happened was a strong Ship, fit for such a Voyage and Imployment<br /> and very well fitted with all manner of materiall and Necessaryes,<br /> and was not over loaden, at the said time, and saith that<br /> her sheate Anchor, was well and sufficiently fastned to<br /> the side of the said Ship, with Ropes. And saith that all<br /> such damage which hath happened to the said ship and Lading<br /> happened not by any Insufficeincy, of in the said Ship,<br /> or any fault of her Master and Company, but meerely by the<br /> violence of the said Storme; And further cannot depose/..
