was broke which came and happened; as hee hath<br />
bin credibly Informed and verily beleeveth by reason<br />
of the ''Coast ffrigots'' falling foule of the ''John''<br />
''and Katherine''. And further cannot depose.
To the 5th hee saith that the head of the said ship ''John''<br />
''and Katherine'' which was broke away the said time was<br />
built about a yeere before, and the building<br />
Carving guilding and Ironworke of the said head<br />
did Cost the said Owners the summe of thirty eight<br />
pounds Eighteene shillings and three pence or thereabouts<br />
which hee knoweth for that hee was Carpenter of her<br />
at the time of the building the said head, and was Imployed<br />
to oversee the doeing thereof, and did fetch the Iron worke<br />
used about the said head from the smiths which came to<br />
7 ''li''13 ''s'' 3 ''d'' or thereabouts and the Timber and<br />
building hee saith cost 25 ''li'' and the carving 2 ''li'' 15 ''s''<br />
both which summes hee knoweth were paid, and the<br />
painting and giulding cost to his remembrance 3 ''li'' 10 ''s''<br />
or thereabouts. And further cannot depose not knowing<br />
what losse the Owners of the said ship, did sustaine by<br />
reason of the breaking said Cable.
To the 6th hee saith that the said ship ''John and Katherine''<br />
at the time shee receaved the Damage in Question was<br />
strong and staunch ship, and her head hee saith was<br />
strong and firme and altogether as good then, at it was<br />
when it was new built which was about a yeere before (as aforesaid)<br />
and saith it was very well Carved, and richly painted<br />
which hee knoweth for the reasons aforsaid. And further<br />
cannot depose.
To thee 7th hee saith that the said Miller was at Cost and<br />
Charge in sending for Timber, and making the said<br />
Ship a shunpe head presently after the said Damage<br />
was done, and further cannot depose./.
To the 8th hee cannot depose.
To the 9th hee referreth him selfe to the Registry of this<br />
Court./
To the 10th hee cannot depose not knowing Alderman<br />
Vincent.
To the 11th hee referreth himselfe to the Laws.
To the last hee saith his forgoeing deposition is true./
