To the first article of the said Allegatio … To the first article of the said Allegation hee saith that from the Moneth<br />
of September 1656. untill this Present the arlate<br />
Sir John Dethick Edward Bolle, John Bancks, Richard fford<br />
Edward Micoe William Prittiman and Compamie.<br />
(who are all Englishmen, and subjects of this Comonwealth<br />
of England.) have bin, and are the Lawfull owners and<br />
Proprietors of the said ship the ''Bantam ffrigot''. (whereof<br />
Isaac Taylor was and is Master) and of her tackle, Apparrell<br />
and ffurniture, and soe comonly Accounted which hee<br />
knoweth for that hee came on board the ship to secure in her<br />
as Gunner of her in the Voyage in question in the beginning of<br />
the moneth of October, 1656: and then hee severall times sawe<br />
the foresayd owners come n board the said ship, and give<br />
order to the said Taijlor about the Voyage in questions<br />
and further cannot depose./:
To the 2d hee saith hee well knoweth that the foresaid Owners<br />
did set out the said ship from this Port in the moneth<br />
of October 1656: upon a Voyage to be made with<br />
her to the East Indias, upon their owne Account and<br />
Adventure, And saith the said Owners made and<br />
Constituted the said Isaac Taylor Master of the said ship<br />
and the Arlate Thomas Newman Supra cargoe of her the<br />
said Voyage, And they did goe the said Voyage in their<br />
said Appointed places. of this deponent's knowledge who went<br />
Gunner as aforesaid of the said ffrigot the said Voyage<br />
And further hee cannot depose./.
To the 3d hee saith that the said Captaine Taylor, Mr Newman<br />
this deponent and the rest of the marriners belonging to the sai<br />
ship, set saile in her for the East Indias, and arrived at<br />
the Island of Indra Ponza on the Coast of Sumatra on or<br />
about the 10th of August 1657: Which hee knoweth for that<br />
hee sailed thither in the said ship in the Quality aforesaid
To the 4th. hee saith that after the arrivall of the ''Bantam''<br />
''ffrigot'' at the said Island of Indra Ponza (which is and ought<br />
to be a ffree place for the English to trade at, and in, and<br />
where the Queene of Acheene (who was and is Soveraigne<br />
and Supreame Governor of the said place) hath Proclaimed<br />
ffree trade to the English nation:) the said Mr Newman<br />
and one ffrancis Griffith the Purser of the said ship (who is<br />
since dead) did goe on shore on the said island of Indra<br />
Ponza, to buy and provide Pepper to lade the said ship<br />
and saith they did then and there Buy and Provide<br />
a great Quantity of Pepper, which (with other Pepper which<br />
they might there in a short time have bought and Provided) [XXX GUTTER]<br />
