To the first Position of the said Libell hee saith that in the monethes<br />
of January, ffebruary, and March 1654: the Libellate Richard Stevens<br />
was the then Master and Comander of the shipp or vessell called<br />
the ''Edward'' of London, and had the Care Charge and Governoance of<br />
her as Master and for such was Comonly accompted: reputed and taken<br />
And further cannot depose:/:
To the second hee saith that the said ship the ''Edward'' of London,<br />
was within the time mentioned in the next precedent article lying in<br />
the River of Thames: and that shee did then stand in neede of and<br />
wanted very much reparation, especially Cordage, which the said<br />
Stevens the then Master perceiving, did goe to the said Edward<br />
Bartlett (who then was, and now is a Ropemaker) and told or<br />
acquainted him with what Cordage the said ship ''Edward'' then wanted<br />
and desired him the said Bartlet to furnish him with the same<br />
for the use of the said ship the ''Edward'', and thereupon the<br />
said Bartlet did furnish the said ship with all and singular the<br />
Cordage mentioned and Expressed in the schedule hereunto<br />
Annexed and now read to this Examinate, And saith the said<br />
Cordage contained the weight, schedulate this deponent seeing and helpeing<br />
to weigh the same, And were all well worth the severall summes<br />
mentioned and set downe in the said schedule, And were then<br />
Comonly sold at those rates, And hee alsoe Deposeth that all<br />
the goods schedulate were really, and truely Imployed, in and<br />
about the repaireing and fitting of the said ship to sea, The Premisses<br />
hee deposeth living then (alsoe at this Present) with the said Bartlett<br />
and helping to make the said Cordage, and alsoe helping to put itt into a<br />
Boate, to be sent aboard the said ship And further cannot Depose<br />
saving the Master of the said ship, and alsoe one Mr Rookes who was then a part Owner came ?and GUTTER]<br />
