of the ''dragon'' aged thirty two yeares or thereabouts a<br />
wittnesse sworne and examined saith as followeth videlicet
To the sayd allegation apud acta hee saith that hee hath made two severall<br />
voyages thither and thereby knoweth that the Island of Bickeere is about<br />
five leagues distant to the East of Alexandria and is a very dangerous<br />
and unsafe port by reason it lyes open to all Enymies both Christians and<br />
Turkes and noe Mariners especially Christians can goe ashoare there<br />
but with great hazard of being taken and made slaves nor can have any<br />
water or other provisions but what comes from Alexandria and are in<br />
great hazard of their lives upon many occasions And this deponent being<br />
there Mate of the ''dragon'' an English shipp sent some men ashoare with<br />
a boate for water and the Inhabitants there drove them away with<br />
throwing stones at them and would not suffer them to get any water nor any<br />
other provisions and the ''Eastland Merchant'' was of this deponents sight<br />
and knowledge at the sayd Port when this deponent was there with the ''dragon''<br />
and as this deponent hath bin Credibly informed and verily beleeveth shee<br />
was there seized on by Spanish men of warr after the ''dragon'' came thence<br />
and saith in the sayd Port the shipps lye open to all hazards and dangers<br />
as well of the Turkes who disallowe of trade with the English at that place<br />
as also to Spanish men of warr who passe that way And further to this<br />
allegation hee cannot depose./

thereabouts a wittnesse sworne and examined saith and<br />
deposeth as followeth videlicet
To the sayd Allegation hee saith that within these two yeares last past<br />
hee hath bin twice with the shipp the ''defence'' as Mate of her at the Island<br />
of Bickeere and thereby knoweth that it lyeth about five or sixe leagues<br />
distant to the East from the Port of Alexandria and lyeth open to all Enymies<br />
both Christians and Turkes and what shipps ride there ride upon their<br />
owne guard and defence for securing their shipps and goods for that the<br />
Turkes who are owners of the Island doe not allowe of any trade with<br />
the English at that place and what Mariners Christians goe ashoare<br />
upon the sayd Island are in great danger to be taken by the Turkes and<br />
