26 yeares or thereabouts sworne before the right<br />
worshipfull John Godolphin doctor of lawes, one of<br />
the Judges of the high Court of the Admiraltie<br />
saith and deposeth by vertue of his oath.
That in the moneth of May 1650 John Evans then of New=<br />
haven in New England set forth to sea the shipp the ''Susan'' of the<br />
said port (burthen 60 tonnes or thereabouts, commanded by Robert<br />
Marten and manned with thirteene men) bound for ffiall in<br />
Portugall laden with pipestaves, hoopes, and pease<br />
with order to proceede thense for Virginia, and soe for London;<br />
And saith shee was fitted and victualled accordingly for the said<br />
voyage, which hee knoweth for that hee this deponent was then servant<br />
to the said John Evands at New haven aforesaid, and kept his<br />
accompts, and was specially acquainted with the said shipps soe<br />
setting out and designe; and ssw her proceede thereon from the<br />
said port. And saith that the said shipp comming to ffiall was<br />
there in or about the moneth of August 1650 seized with her<br />
lading by the authoritie of the King of Portugall<br />
and the said John Evans dispoiled thereof, as by severall certificates from ffiall<br />
and the relation of some of the said shipps company this deponent<br />
hath bin informed. And further saith that the hull tackle<br />
furniture and apparrell of the said shipp at the time of such her proceeding from<br />
New haven aforesaid together with her<br />
fitting, furnishing, victualling and charges of setting out<br />
