To the said Interrogatories hee deposeth that hee well knew and was<br />
Coxen of the shipp the ''Roebuck'' interrogated, (William hargrive master)<br />
and servant to the said william hargrave in her last voyage from London to Lisbon, and well knew and knoweth<br />
George Broughton who was Sopra-cargo of the said shipp, and<br />
had power to signe bills of lading for goods received aboard,<br />
and this deponent being 22 monethes in the said shipp<br />
with him and having often seene him write this deponent is very well<br />
acquainted with his hand writing, and having nowe seene a bill of<br />
lading for two bales of silke dated at London the 7th of ffebruary [?1647]<br />
subscribed Geo: Broughton. hee this deponent verily beleeveth the said<br />
subscription to be the proper hand writing of the said George Broughton,<br />
and verily beleeveth the contents of the said bill to be true.

Mariner, late Gunners mate of the<br />
said shipp the ''James'', aged 31 yeeres or thereabouts sworne<br />
before the right worshippfull the Commissioners in the<br />
Portugall businesse.
Whereas this deponent in a deposition of his made in the Admiraltie Court<br />
the 12th of May 1653 touching the said shipp ''James'' (Edmund Button<br />
commander) and the losses of the owners and mariners therein, hath<br />
deposed Thomas Jones his losse for goods, clothes and otherwise to be eightie<br />
pounds, as in and by the said deposition made on the behalfe of Major Sal[?XXXXX]<br />
and others is to be seene, Nowe hee for the further information of the<br />
Commissioners touching the particulars of the said losses, saith and deposeth<br />
that the said Thomas Jones masters mate and pilot of the said shipp had<br />
in her and lost by the seizure at Lisbonn the effects of a parcell of pictures, a parcell<br />
of stuffs and stockings, a quantitie of Gummalack, a quantitie of<br />
oile, five Rolls of Brazila tobacco, which goods with his clothes, bookes,<br />
globes and other Instruments and necessaries lost by him by<br />
the said seizure could not in his estimation be lesse worth than 80 ''li'' sterling at<br />
the least.
