Transcription of four hundred tonnes. and upwards. and wof four hundred tonnes. and upwards. and was well worth<br /> the summe of four thousand eight hundred millrees and<br /> upwards and was by the Portuguese themselves valued<br /> after that rate at Angola att 12000 Crownes each<br /> Crowne being there worth 4s. sterling. And further<br /> deposeth not. To the 10th article he saith that he this deponent before he came<br /> away from Angola did pay and satisfy the Royall Customes<br /> of all the foresayd Negers receyved into his shipp for<br /> the summe of three thousand two mill 600 rees<br /> in the whole in money, and bills of exchange payable in Bahia<br /> and this<br /> deponent was obliged in his person shipp and goods to<br /> make good the sayd bills, and is not yet discharged from<br /> his sayd security given in<br /> but is still lyable to make good the same and amounting to the<br /> one thousand eight hundred eight mill six hundred and eighty rees. And saith he<br /> was to have receyved the foresayd whole summe of three thousand two mill<br /> six hundred rees of and from the respective merchants in Bahia. to whom the<br /> sayd Negars were to be delivered aććording to their<br /> consignements and dispatches att the rate of four<br /> millrees per peice of India; which rate is made not<br /> by the number of heads<br /> but aććording to the value of the Negars<br /> , or aććording as favour can be<br /> obteyned from the Officers that grant the dispatches<br /> att Angola, where the Current price of a compleat<br /> young and lusty negar, wh[?ich] is a peice of India, is<br /> commonly reckoned att the number of 22 millrees.<br /> And lastly saith that the sayd 3002. mill 600 rees were<br /> likewise seized in the hands of the sayd factors and<br /> never ćame to the hands of this deponent albeit he<br /> still is obliged to satisfy and make good the foresayd bills<br /> to the severall persons to whose benefitt the<br /> same were drawne in manner as aforesayd To the 11th article he saith that in or about the monethes of May and June<br /> 1651. there were laden on board the sayd shipp att Bahia aforesayd by<br /> severall merchants subiects of the king of Portugall nine hundred<br /> and forty Chests most of which were of sugars and some of them Tobaccoes and sixty one fetches of sugar, and [SEVEN LINES OF NEXT AT NINETY DEGREES IN LH MARGIN - NOT CLEAR WHERE THEY SHOULD BE INSERTED] # the sayd 3002 mill 600 rees had bene payd to this deponent there would have come to this deponents hands over and above the satisfying of the sayd bills of exchange amounting to 1808 mill 680 rees as aforesayd, the summe of eleven<br /> hundred ninety three mill nine hundred and twenty Rees in ready money for accompt of himselfe and his sayd<br /> Owners and Company, and that himselfe ought to be discharged and saved harmlesse by the King of Portugall and his<br /> subjects of and from the sayd bills by having the same delivered up to him or otherwise to have allowance of the sayd whole summe of 3002. mill 600 rees<br /> and then to pay the sayd bills hImselfe ffrancis Hurdidge [SIGNATURE, LH MARGIN, AT 90 DEGREES]idge [SIGNATURE, LH MARGIN, AT 90 DEGREES]  +
