'''Ambrose Ellet''' of Wapping Sailor, aged 24 yeares or<br />
thereabouts sworne and examined as aforesaid.
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith and deposeth that hee well knew<br />
and was Cooke of the shipp the ''Affrey'' interogated (wherof Robert<br />
Blackleech was master) at such time as hee was last at this port of<br />
London, whense hee saith hee was bound on a voyage for Porto in<br />
Portugall and thence to returne to this port of London.
To the second hee saith that about six monethes since the said shipp<br />
departed from this Port of London, and about six weekes after arived<br />
at Porto in Portugall aforesaid, and thense staid about two monethes<br />
in which space shee take in a carge of oranges and lemmons for this<br />
port of London and then departed therewith for this port of London,<br />
and that shortly after such her running one from Porto the weather<br />
became fowle and tempestuous, and such fowle weather increasing and<br />
continewing [?longe] and the wind contrary the said vesell was with her said lading forced into<br />
Saint Georges channell as farr as king-roade, in which chanell shee<br />
was by adverse windes and fowle weather forced to continue a monethes<br />
space or thereabouts, and then the winde serving, the said master and<br />
company with the very first oportunitie came and plied their course<br />
with their said shipp for this port, and coming into Weymouth bay<br />
the said shipp was met with, set upon shott at and by force taken<br />
by a dunkirke man of warr, on Easter day last, and that the said<br />
man of warrs company having plundred her sailes, rigging and<br />
lading as much as they thought fitt, they set her on fire, and<br />
made [?a ?vast] hole to sink her and soe the said shipp perished and shee and her tackle<br />
and furniture were and and are utterly lost to the said Blackleech, who with<br />
this deponent and all the rest of his company were taken into the said<br />
man of warr and carried to dunkirke and there imprisoned, this precontest<br />
humphrey Burton being one of the company soe taken in her. And<br />
otherwise hee cannot depose; saving the master and company used all diligence to prevent the said seisure.
To the third hee saith the said Robert Blackleech was commonly reputed<br />
sole owner of the said shipp tackle, apparell and furniture, and this<br />
deponent hath often heard him assure that hee was soe and hee beleeveth<br />
verily that hee was soe. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
