of October 1655 was lawfull Owner and Proprietor of the arlate shipp the<br />
''Thomas'' of Gosport and of her tackle apparrell and furniture and soe commonly<br />
accompted agreed upon for the price of her at havre de Grace or New [?havre] in ffrance And<br />
further to this article hee cannot depose.
To the 2 and third articles hee saith that in or about the moneth of September 1655 or beginning of<br />
October that yeare, and before such tyme the sayd herman bought the sayd shipp<br />
the ''Thomas'' of Gosport, this deponent heard the arlate Richard dorrington at<br />
Newhaven in ffrance tell the sayd herman that hee the sayd dorrington had<br />
formerly bin Owner of an eighth part of the sayd shipp the ''Thomas'' of Gosport and<br />
that shee was formerly called by the name of the ''Guifte of God'' and belonged by that name, [?6/16 pXXX] and other English men and had bin<br />
taken from them by ffrench men and had bin condemned in ffrance as<br />
prize and sayd hee the sayd dorrington was taken a prisoner by the ffrench<br />
in an other vessell about the moneth of August or beginning of<br />
