Examined upon an alleagtion on the<br />
behalfe of the said hunt and company
'''Stephen Taylor''' of the parish of Stepney<br />
Mariner, Gunner of the said shipp<br />
the ''Affrican'' aged 50 yeeres or thereabouts<br />
sworne and examined.
To the first article hee referreth himselfe to the Registrie of this Court<br />
and saith that Captaine Woodgreene arlate at the time of the seizure<br />
hereafter mentioned had his Commission (obtained by the producents)<br />
aboard the ''Affrican frigot'', which hee knoweth being one of the companie<br />
and seeing the said Commission under a greate seale, and hearing the<br />
same read.
To the second article hee saith that on Good friday last past the<br />
said Isaac Woodgreene and company in the said shipp the ''African frigot''<br />
upon the high and open seas neere the Ile of Scio mett with surprized<br />
and tooke a certaine ffrench shipp called the ''Madame Guardiana''<br />
and her lading, which hee knoweth being one of the companie as aforesaid<br />
of the ''African'' and helping to make the said seizure. And saith that<br />
the said Isaac Woodgreene having soe made the said seizure, was<br />
for provision of victualls and other occasions constrained to goe with<br />
and carry the said Prize to Smirna, where being arived, the ffrench<br />
Consull there tooke away the Captaine and companie of the said prize<br />
the ''Madam Guardiana'', and disposed them into other ffrench vessells<br />
and sent them away for ffrance, and would not permitt the said<br />
Captaine Woodgreene to detain any of them to bringe them hence<br />
for England, although hee used all diligence and earnestly desired<br />
to have some of them to bring them for England, all which hee knoweth<br />
being present and privie to the same, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the third article hee saith and deposeth that after the said seizure<br />
this deponent heard some of the ffrench companie of the said prize<br />
say and confesse that the said shipp and goods belonged to Marseilla and<br />
to ffrenchmen there, and that shee came thence. And otherwise hee<br />
cannot depose.

the ''African frigot'' made seizure of the prize the ''Madame Guardiana'',<br />
hee the said Wood greene had a Commission under the greate seale of this<br />
