or thereabouts sworne and examined.
To the first article hee saith and deposeth that hee hath well knowne<br />
the shipp the ''Salvador'' arlate whereof Christian Cloppenburgh is master<br />
and hath soe donne for theise five yeares last or thereabouts, during which<br />
space shee hath alwaies bin accompted and reputed to be belonging to the<br />
port of hamborough and to be there built, but hee this deponent<br />
was abroad on a voyage in the time of her building and therefore hee<br />
cannot depose thereto, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the second hee cannot depose, saving what followeth.
To the third article that during such time as the said shipp the ''Salvador''<br />
was and remayned at Cadiz in the yeare 1652 there was there noe common<br />
voice or report nor did hee there ever heare it said that shee was<br />
belonging to Amsterdam, but the common report and estimation was<br />
that shee belonged to hamborough, all which hee knoweth<br />
because hee this deponent was then at Cadiz in the shipp the ''George''<br />
of hamborough whereof hee is master. And otherwise hee cannot<br />
depose.
To the fourth article hee saith that hee well knewe the arlate<br />
Mathew ffransen and hath soe donne for theise five yeares last past<br />
and upwards, and saith hee is a poore slight saile maker in Amsterdam<br />
and noe wayes likelie to be a part owner of soe considerable a shipp<br />
as the ''Salvador'' is, which was and is a shipp of greate Burthen, and<br />
by her mould and bulke appeareth was built for a greate trade, and this deponent<br />
hath for thise three or foure yeares before her seizure knowne her to<br />
use a greate trade on the coasts of Spaine, and saith that her owners<br />
are comonly reputed merchants and others of goods qualitie in<br />
hamborough, and this deponent knoweth some of them namely Daniel<br />
Brandes, Jerome Snitger, John Baptista yoncker, Gerard Boooremaster<br />
John Rubke and Jerom Peters and the said master, who hee saith<br />
were and are persons of such eminence and qualitie, that in all<br />
probabilitie they would not permit any such slight person as<br />
the said Mathew ffransen is to be part owner of any shipp with<br />
or amongest them; and saith the said persons soe by him named<br />
to be owners have bin comonly accompted Imployers and freighters<br />
of the said shipp, And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the fifth hee cannot depose.
To the 6th hee saith hee well knoweth the shipp the ''Mercurius''<br />
arlate (hance yonge master) and well knoweth that in or about the end<br />
of July 1652 shee came and arived in the Baye of Cadiz comming from<br />
