accompt of hollanders, but it is generally … accompt of hollanders, but it is generally beleeved that they doe export
good store aswell as the Marchants of other Nations. And further cannot
depose.
To the fifth hee saith that hee this deponent doth not knowe of any such
colourable bills of lading to be made for the securing and redeeming of any
such goods from danger, though it hath bin usuall and accompted iust and
right soe to doe. And further deposeth not.
To the 6th hee saith hee cannot affirme any thinge to this article, more
then the generall opinion and [[?XXXXge] in holland whereby this or any other
To the Interrogatories. [CENTRE HEADING]
To the first Interrogatorie hee saith that hee well knoweth of his owne
experience and knowledge that it is usuall and ordinaryin Spaine and particularly
at Cadiz and Saint Lucars for merchant strangers of all nations to lade and export
greate quantities of silver thence notwithstanding the danger: and that heretofore
greate quantitities of silver have bin exported from the said ports of Spaine
for England and fflanders and other forreigne ports without Registring at the
said ports of Spaine, which hee knoweth because hee hath longe lived in Spaine
as aforesaid, andused merchandize there, and
since that hee hath lived in England hee hath continued the said marchandize.
And otherwise hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing deposition.
To the second hee saith that for the time interrogated the marchants of Antwerp, Gannt
Lisle, dunquirke and other parts of Brabant and fflaunders subiects of the
king of Spaine have and doe drive a constant trade with Spaine to Cadiz
and Saint Lucars and other parts thereof, and their factors at Cadiz and
Saint Lucars doe frequently make them their restournes in silver some with license
and some without, as this deponent
hath observed and taken notice of by communication with merchants, and as
hee hath bin credibly informed. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the third hee saith that exporting of plate without license is a businesse of
greate trust, and by reason of the danger and trouble mamy factors wll not
undertake it, yet those that doe lade any, doe it often with fictitious names,
to the end the very ladeer may not be disocovered, but with the confidence that
the parties to whom it goeth consigned will trust and beleeve them that have soe
laden it by a fictitious name to be their owne, and in substance the
fictitious name is only for the prevention of discovery, but noe body
preiudiced thereby. And otherwise hee cannot depose.
To the 4th negatively.
To the 5th hee cannot answer, saying hee knoweth not what quantitie of
silver they of Antwerp, Gannt, Lisle and other parts of flaunders had in
