conditions and covenants of masters orders and Charter parties, which<br />
to followe hee holdeth to be prudent.
To the 7th hee saith that it is an usuall thinge for factors (when<br />
they have not goods enough to lade a shipp full for the freighters<br />
accompt,) to permitt other men to loade and make up the rest of the<br />
lading, in case they have not order from their principalls to the<br />
contrary, and hee conceiveth that in case such factors order him<br />
the master is bound to take in such goods of other men aswell<br />
as the freighters, unlesse his Charterpartie bee to the contrary,<br />
And otherwise hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid, saying that<br />
the Charterparties are to be the rules in such cases.
To the 10th hee saith that outwards there is noe rate set by the<br />
Turkey companie for goods by the tonne, but homewards hee<br />
saith their rate is 4 ''li'' for a tonne of galls, 6 ''li'' sterlinge for<br />
a tonne of Cotton wooll, and 7 ''li'' per tonne for fine goods<br />
from Cyprus and Scanderoone, and that Ligorne is within their<br />
privilege, and saith that theise are the ordinary rates of<br />
the Turkey company. And otherwise cannot answer saving<br />
as aforesaid.
To the 18th hee saith that hee conceiveth that the said Alderman<br />
ffrederick, henry Chewne, ffrancis ffowke and Thomas [?Rowse GUTTER]<br />
are all of the Company of Turky merchants, and for such hee<br />
saith they were and are commonly accompted, And otherwise<br />
hee cannot answer saving as aforesaid.
To the 21th hee saith hee referreth himselfe to his foregoing<br />
deposition and cannot otherwise answer.
To the 22th hee saith hee hath bin at Cyprus,<br />
and Scanderoone and that by his order Cottons from Cyprus<br />
and Gawles from Scanderoone have bin laden aboard shipps for<br />
England, and that generally they are in those places taken in<br />
by take, but the master may see them weighed if hee please[?th GUTTER]<br />
for hee is bound by custome to make them good by weight according to the<br />
weight mentioned in the factors bill of lading or Invoice,<br />
And otherwise saving his foregoing deposition and answers hee<br />
cannot answer.
To the 23th hee saith that Cottons (but not Gawles) are<br />
upon their lading in the Straights usually soe steeved and<br />
rammed downe with engines soe hard that it is not<br />
easie to take out the baggs without breaking some of them,<br />
