[CENTRE HEADING] Warren against [?horner] Examined upon an allegation given in on behalfe of the said<br /> [?horner] 24 January 1655. '''.j.''' '''Henry Goffe''' of Limehouse shipwright, aged 48 yeares or<br /> thereabouts sworne and examined. To the first article of the said allegation hee saith and deposeth that for<br /> the space of five weekes together next before departing and proceeding of the shipp the ''Angell'' arlate<br /> from this port upon the voyage in question hee this deponent being a<br /> shippwright and hired to oversight the worke of fitting her for the<br /> said voyage, did belong unto her, and was daily aboard for all the<br /> said space (saving Sundayes) and thereby well knoweth that shee was<br /> a strong tight and staunch shipp , and in his estimation well and sufficiently tackled<br /> apparelled and furnished fit for such a voyage, and was soe staunch<br /> and tight to the very time of her said proceeding on the said voyage that<br /> space was not pumped nor needed pumpeing but twice in the space<br /> of a moneth of the said five weekes time, All which hee knoweth<br /> being a shipwright and frequently on board her and taking<br /> especiall notice of such her sufficiencie. '''2.''' '''William Christmas''' of Redriff in the County of Surrey<br /> Shipwright, aged 27 yeares or thereabouts sworne<br /> and examined. To the first article hee saith hee well knoweth the shipp the ''Angell''<br /> arlate (Mr horner commander) and saith that shee lying neere<br /> Bell wharfe in fitting for a voyage to sea<br /> namely in or about the moneth of May 1654 this deponent<br /> being a Shipwright and a foreman in the worke at Mr Petts yard<br /> at Ratcliffe was by Mr horner intreated to goe, and did goe aboard<br /> her to [?XXXX] her touching her strength and sufficiencie, and<br /> comming aboard and willing to take an exact accompt if her tightnesse<br /> and sufficiencie hee this deponent caused three strakes of her sheathing<br /> betwixt winde and water to be ript off, and the [?weake] of the<br /> [?hoodings] ends afore and abaft to be alsoe ripped off, and the<br /> same being donne, hee searched and found her seames to be very<br /> good and firme, and soe caused her to be sheathed up againe, and<br /> about six weekes after shee proceeded on her voyage, being (as hee<br /> beleeveth) the voyage in question, And saith that hee found and sawe<br /> upon such surveying of her that shee was a firme, tight staunch<br /> strong and sufficient shipp and fitt for a voyage to Virginia, And<br /> her masts were [?fitt] and substantiall.
