''in the feild'' was of Middlebrowe and came from haver de Grace and that<br />
her lading consisted of Bales and other goods, and that shee was bound<br />
therewith for Cadiz, and this answer and accompt was alsoe as hee<br />
saith before the comming up of the ''Tyger''.
To the fifth article hee saith and deposeth that upon such comming up of the<br />
''drake frigot'', and such haling by her and answer of this deponent and company<br />
as aforesaid, and before the comming up of the ''Tiger frigot'', this deponent<br />
sent his under stiersman and foure or five more of his company in his<br />
shipps boate aboard the ''drake'' with this deponents sea briefe, to give the<br />
commannder of the ''drake'' more particular satisfaction of the place whereto<br />
hee belonged, and of his lading and designed voyage; but instead of<br />
retourning (as this deponent expeected) hee saith that they and the boate<br />
were detained aboard the ''drake frigot'', and not suffered to retourne<br />
but were caried to Portsmouth in the ''drake''. And otherwise hee cannot<br />
depose.
To the sixth article hee saith and deposeth that about an houre after<br />
such haling and answering as aforesaid and that this deponents undr stiersman<br />
and others of his company as aforesaid were gonne aboard the ''drake''<br />
''frigot'', the ''Tyger frigot'' (Captaine Saunders commannder) came alsoe up<br />
with the ''hare'', and sent her boate aboard the ''hare'', in which the arlate<br />
harman Goris went aboard the ''Tyger'' to excuse this deponents comming out<br />
of his shipp by nighty, and to satisfie the said Captaine touching their<br />
lading and designe and to what place they were belonging as aforesaid:<br />
And saith that when day came on, namely about six of the clock of<br />
the next morning, this deponent not seeing the said Goris nor a Spaniard<br />
that went with him retourne, and being sent for by Captaine Saunders went himselfe aboard the ''Tyger frigot'',<br />
and there hee was alsoe detained by Captaine Saunders till the bringing<br />
of the said frigot to an anchor in Portsmouth Roade.
To the seaventh, 8th and 9th articles hee saith and deposeth that this deponent<br />
did not the said morning or at any other time tell any messinger that was<br />
sent or came from Captaine Sanders to fetch this deponent aboard him,<br />
or say by way of answer or reply or otherwise that the goods in the shipp<br />
the ''hare in the ffeild'' were prize, or to any such effect, nor did this deponent<br />
while the said messinger was aboard the ''hare in the ffeild'' or at any other<br />
time speake to or instigate his men to fight, and was soe farr from<br />
intertaineing any unkinde thought against the English, that hee made the<br />
said messinger welcome, and gave him two or three glasses of wine, and<br />
dranke with him in a kinde and friendly manner aboard the ''hare in''<br />
''the ffeild'', and did not speake any word to any of his company concerning<br />
fighting; and saith that having soe drunck two or three glasses of<br />
wine together, this deponent went presently with the said<br />
messenger aboard the ''Tyger frigot'' to Captaine Sannders, and further<br />
