London citizen and leather seller of London, nowe a labourer<br />
to the office of the Ordnance in the Tower of London,<br />
aged 56 yeares or thereabouts, sworne and examined.
To the said allegation made in the acts of Court hee saith and<br />
deposeth that hee this deponent was acquainted with the ship<br />
the ''Content'' her being taken up and imployed in the service of<br />
this Commonwealth about three weekes before the arrest in<br />
question, which arrest happened (to his remembrance) in<br />
the winter time and somewhat before Christmas in the yeare<br />
1653, And saith that about the said time there<br />
came a yonge man to this deponent upon Tower Wharfe, and<br />
asked this deponent if the said vessel (then lying at Tower<br />
wharfe neare the Crane) were in the States service, and this<br />
deponent demanding of him whie hee asked that question, the<br />
said yonge man answered, and said, Because I have arrested her.<br />
And then the said vessel was of this deponents certaine<br />
knowledge in the service of this Commonwealth, and<br />
undischardged of the said service, and then lay there to deliver<br />
out ammunition, which shee had aboard for the service of this<br />
Commonwealth, and had a gun<br />
belonging to the State then aboard and undelivered. And otherwise<br />
hee cannot dispose.
