Examined upon an allegation made in the<br />
acts of Court the seaventh of this<br />
instant.

London Looking-glasse maker, aged 36 yeares or thereabouts<br />
sworne and examined.
To the said allegation made in the acts of Court hee saith and deposeth<br />
that the ship the ''Content'' mentioned in this<br />
Court at the sute of Pope Burges and Houghton, was in the service<br />
and imployment of this Commonwealth, which hee knoweth to be<br />
true, for that hee this deponent, at the time of the said arrest<br />
(which happened as hee remembreth in the winter time 1653) was aboard<br />
her, as a labourer, and imployed about delivereie out<br />
of her powder, shott, muskets pistols, and other ammunition part of<br />
a store of the Commonwealth put into her towards the supplie of the Commonwealths<br />
Navie, into which service the ''Content'' was taken up. And saith that<br />
shee had a brasse gunn and three barrels of small shott (part of<br />
the said store) undelivered at the time of the said arrest<br />
which hee saith were delivered out about foure or five dayes<br />
after the said arrest and not before, And otherwise hee cannot<br />
depose, saving the said ship at the time of the said arrest was<br />
lying and attending her said delivereie, under the States crane<br />
at Tower wharfe.

To the first it is donne as is required, and hee saith that hee remembreth not the day of<br />
the moneth of the said arrest, but for the day of the weeke, it<br />
was to his remembrance on a Thursday or a Friday, and for<br />
the moneth, hee saith it was (to his remembrance)<br />
some what before Christmas 1653. And saith that one ffrancis<br />
Br[?evet] was then master of the said vessel or supplied the<br />
place of master. And saith hee well knoweth the said Br[?evet]<br />
but cannot commend his honestie, in that hee knoweth him to<br />
be one that is not willing to pay poore men their wages when<br />
hee sett them on worke, as hee did this deponent. Howbeit this<br />
deponent beleeveth that upon his oath hee will speake the<br />
truth betwixt partie and partie. And otherwise hee<br />
cannot answer.
